The book On the road from Jack Kerouac.. will probably get a film version in 2006? Salles to Direct the Film Adaptation of "On the Road" Jack Kerouac's classic novel about the Beat movement - "On the Road" - will soon be made into a feature film. Walter Salles has signed on to direct the film, which will be executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Rock, and John H Williams. "On the Road" is Kerouac's most famous novel. The heart and soul of the Beat movement, "On the Road" is considered by many to be one of the most important novels of the century. The book, which is narrated by Kerouac's alter-ego Sal Paradise, is a cross-country journey filled with the real people who made an impression on Kerouac's life. Director Salles was quoted in The Hollywood Reporter as saying, "'On the Road' is a seminal book that gave voice to a whole generation -- capturing its hunger for experience, unwillingness to accept imposed truths and dissatisfaction with the status quo." Jose Rivera is adapting the screenplay with filming expected to begin in 2006. i think some books they should just leave alone. every bleeding book doesn't need to be made into a movie.
A little cynical Bird Migration? I never heard there was going to be a movie version released...I'm looking forward to giving it a try!
maybe it will become a classic and over 10 years it will spawn 2 or 3 shitty sequels than in 10 years in hopes to gain more money the studios will remake it.
yeah there seem to be alot of movies like that coming out now days. but is it really going against the status quo if it is just a commercial thing that people can buy into? i mean, i love movies but i movie are much more commercial than books and i think that when you make somethings into movies you cheapen them and almost void there meaning.
i'm a bit disappointed to hear they're making a movie of this. for me, i think it should be read because a lot of the emotions and feelings can't be conveyed in film as well as writing. i don't feel like it'll do the book justice. hopefully i'll change my mind once i see it. i agree with wildire.
They made a decent job of Ernesto Guevara's accounts in "The Motorcycle Diaries"....not the same, but kind of related. Lets wait and see
