What are good dogs to get? What would you pick if you were to go get a dog tomorrow?

Get a rot and teach it to eat people that look at you wrong or ask you for your phone number.

I like Saint Bernards. They are so cute and they seem to have good temperments too.

Quality... I have an attack cat for that purpose.

hey quality, im pretty sure pitbulls are best suited for eating people that look at you wrong. As for eating people that ask for you're number, muts work the best.

Heh... seriously though. The dog I get would have to get along with cats because I have three cats so I doubt a pit or a rottweiler would work. Not sure about a St. Bernard. I guess a lot of it would really depend on the dog.

i've always been partial to shetland sheepdogs, scottish terriers, and golden retrievers. collies and german shorthaired pointers are great, too.

basenjis are some fucking sweet dogs, but they're hard to handle...they can get over most fences, if i remember right they've got a wierd cry thats not a normal bark or yap....hyper, too.....

anyway, it all depends on what would fit your personality and lifestyle the most....i.e. where you live, your cleaning habits, and so on.

Personally, I have a german shorthair and a lab/collie mix. Both are excellent dogs. What kind of dog are you looking for, what qualities matter to you? If you are looking for a dog to go exploring with or camping ect. A good hunting bread is a good choice for outdoor activities. if you are looking for a dog to do indoor stuff, you would have to ask someone else:) . Just do your research, different dogs work for different people.

Old English sheepdog!! :D Because they're just so cute and adorable and lovable.
Terriers are great as well, though they tend to have a bit of a temper. But who hasn't.. :p
Aaah I dunno, all dogs are great.
    I want a dog too. :(

I had a golden retriever while growing up, they're sweet dogs, very friendly and decent for hunting too (esp bird hunting)

If I could have any dog right now, I'd probably get a shih tzu/bijon cross, just because my mom's bf's brother has a couple and they're the sweetest dogs I've ever run across. Very quiet for small dogs, very friendly, and they seem quite smart too, for dos of such a small size :D

Always had rescue dogs, Heinz 57 varieties. One we have now is nineteen years old, I look at her and wonder how's she's possible.

i'd get a fully weaned but still young and trainable mongral puppy.
peddigrees are bullshit. i'd look at the size of his paws in relationship
to the rest of his body to get an idea what size he's going to be.
i'd avoid both extremes of smaller then a cat or bigger then a horse.
i'd want a dog to be big enough to not likely get accedently stepped on
but small enough no to be bigger then i am, or eat me out of house and
home. i would raise him to be loving and friendly but i wouldn't try to
stop him from barking. i'd teach him not to chaise cats or other small
creaturese and to get along with them.

about 1/3 of one's own mass is an appropriate maximum for any household
comensal. so that gives you and idea. i'd want one that would grow up
to be no more then about 40 or 50 pounds, but still not one of those little
teeny tiney ankle attach dogs either. and absolutely definately a mixed
    breed 'mut'.
