four plants do well under a 400 but there is info on the net that works out how many lumens you need for each plant and how many lumens each light gives. hav a search about. think there might be a bit about it on here somewhere

For marijuana cultivation, at the standard of 50 watts per sq/ft., a 400-watt HPS effectively lights 8 sq/ft, or just under a 3' x 3' space.

Depending on what style of growing your doing, you can fit a plant every 1 or 2 sq/ft.

If growing from seed remember up to half the plants will be male try 10 seeds under a 400w light.
If growing clones/cuttings 4 is fine but the more you grow the less vegative time is needed. Personally i would grow 6 cuttings with a net about a foot above them. this way you can train them through the net. Read up on scrog.

but number 5 and 6 dont seem to be gettin that much light so i posted on the net to see if i should jus kill 2 of the small ones to make the big ones stronger

You should rotate each container each day, that will help spread the light around to each plant. or rotate every time you water. That way each plant receives light at a different angle, which allows some of the smaller nodes under the canopy receive a little extra light.

How big are your clones BC_Bud_Boy?
You should be able to grow about 4 clones per sq/ft
    Under a 400W HPS, you get close to a 3' x 3' coverage.
    4 clones x 9 = about 36 clones under your HPS.
When your plants are about 1 foot tall, they will begin to need more space.
Clones don't even need very much light until they start to veg, at which point I wouldn't call them clones anymore.

If you find that your 6 plants are competing for the light, do a ScrOG.
ScrOG concentrates the tops of your plants into the center of the bunch, where all the light is. You can get monster, arm-sized buds this way. Check it out.

    I also am growing under 2 lights...a 400MH and a 400HPS
i currently have my mother and babies under the MH and bloom 6-9 clones when they show good root growth(8"-12") normally.
I do this in 36"x42"x60" flower box(veg box is same size)
not a high yielding setup, but it gets me by pretty well, and stealth being important...the small boxes are inconspiquious and small enough to be transported alone fairly quickly

think Ill enjoy some G13xBlack Widow
    thanx for your time,
    stretch
