I'm going to be going on an organised overland expedition leaving from Istanbul and travelling through Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt ending in Cairo. it'll be 6 weeks long. I thought perhaps it would be a good introduction to travelling independantly as i've never done something like this on my own before. Has anyone any experience of overland group travel on a truck? Do you think it's a good way to travel. I'd also love to hear your opinions on the part of the world i'm going to. Thanks
That sounds amazing. I know some people who went to India overland in a van Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-India and said it was an amazing experience. You'll need to check where official border crossing points are, whether you need to get visas in advance, also political situations. These countries might be more difficult for a women to travel in alone. I know in India alot of women I met travelling alone found it harder work because of all the unwanted attention they got from men. The main thing is your planning, if you plan well you should've a great time. I hope you'll have some photos and tales for the boards when you come back.
