Something that gives me a great rush is when I hear someone say 'Jesus Christ' as a curse or derogatory remark. I can't help but smile man. That's prophecy. any other believers feel that way?
i always thought people used "jesus christ" in place of "i don't believe it" jesus that was scary.......jesus christ that truck nearly hit us .. etc etc.... seems to make sense in that context to me, anyway *shrugs*
i'm not sure what you are asking me to do, but this is what i am assuming. well Psalm 22 is the scene at the cross. i'll post those that specifically in a sec. to refer to what still happens now to Christ 'in name'--so when I said "prophecy" I meant that the OT was fullfilled by Christ who still is all those things listed below even now, 2000 years later. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people. 7 All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” 12 Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. 13 They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. 16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; 17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. Cat Stevens eat your heart out! Him and all his colors. Oz I know what you are saying and i agree that "Jesus Christ" or either is sometimes used in disbelief. But to me even used in that reference 2 grand later is something pretty impossible souding. BUT, I hear it used as a straight up curse...almost every day I would guess. I am in contact with a great multitude of swearers
Since "Jesus Christ" is some made up name invented who knows when, I say it is totaly irrelevent to any kind of prohecy.
hmm, well I don't know who this "Jesus" person is, or his many alternate personalities. And frankly, his violence and intolerence scare me. I do know the promised messiah who came to bring light to the world, and he was human and he had 1 name Yahoshua bin Yoseph. Meaning Yahoshua (YHWH saves) bin Yoseph (son of Yoseph)
From a Hindu perspective, I would say there is no problem with it at all. No matter what you feel when you say it, the name of the Lord is purifying and beautiful. If you eat a piece of candy while you are angry, does the candy lose it's sweetness?
My brother's name is Nicholas. In Ukranian (and using the Roman alphabet) it is Nicholai. Did the name change? No, the language changed.
Yes, but you could still call him Nicholai, I know lots of people who come from other countries, and most of them don't change his name. Pedro is Pedro, we didn't change it to Pete just because we moved??? Moxt names not using the Roman alphabet are transliterated, not translated, there is a difference. Also explain why the didn't "translate" it to Joshua, that would have been the acceptable translation. Take a few minutes and find a nice concordance (they can be found online) and do a search on the word "name" You will find that both the Father and the son have alot to say about names!!! If you want to be fooled by the whole "Christain" Movement that is OK by me, but to blindly believe is foolish. Look into the beginings of what you profess to follow, and you will learn that the person you claim to follow would have no idea about what was going on. I am not condeming people who don't know, there are lots of wonderful ignorant people out there who are just doing what they percieve to be the truth, but never bothered to look deeper. In response to the first post, I was just pointing out that I don't see how saying a made up name is fufilling that particular prophecy.
Yes, my point was though the spelling and pronouciation may change, the name is still the same name. I do understand that when you use alphabets other than the roman and transcribe between the two, change does occur. If i had to venture a guess, it would be to distinguish between the two. Although they didn't do it for other names in th texts, The man in question here is faily important and would have wanted to be very clear who they were talking about. Similarily, the use of capitals when pronouns refering to him were used to help distinguish between him and other people. I will do that when i get home. I've got a concordance in my Bible. If i can't find anythign, I will check the net...Any things you can tell me to keep an eye out for? Not sure what you mean by this...
What do you know about the founding of the church???? Of the councils which formed the beliefs that many hold on to today? That was all I was saying. If you really have a belief you should (IMO) do your best to know everything about that belief, including the people who set it up. Most christians aren't bad people, and there are some who really want to know the truth. If you Pm me somewhere I can snail mail, I'll send you a coy of a couple good books.. They have lots of good stuff and historical and biblical references.
When I say Jesus Christ its not negative, but asking for Jesus to clarify or answer this insanity. Its coming from a place of wonder, or disbelief in the actions of people and things on this earth. Like only God knows...
My knowledge is very very limited. I do want to learn more, I am majoring in Religious Studies at university as of Tuesday. I haven't taken any classes yet cause I registered so late for this year I couldnt get in...
Just remeber, the truth will set you free, but it will piss you off first. Go at it with an open mind and a willingness to learn. I wish you well in you studies.
right on. i think when i say "oh, jesus christ..." i'm saying it in amazement at how wrapped up in craziness and illusions people are. like if someone tells me i have to take off my hat and stand up during the pledge of allegience, and if i don't, i'll be suspended, or something. i think it does have a deeper meaning to me, as a reference to the cliche example of someone who was simply good and didn't force or join in on any pointless ritual to show other people just how good he was. now, it's like, if you're not good, they'll show you how good they are by doing something hurtful, thereby FORCING you to be good... so you're saved... in some obscure way. although as far as you can tell, someone was just an asshole to you for no reason. jesus christ.
