I was just wondering what your views are on porridge I saw this man last week complaining of the cold in a car boot sale and a passerby suggested he eat porridge ....then I went and also suggested he eat porridge . then this week, same carboot sale same man complaining of the cold again, and I said in a loud voice have you had your porridge like you said you would last week and he said no . anyway how many of you dont eat your daily porridge and then complain because your cold . porridge is wonder food it wont make you fat, is full of fibre, makes you hardy and is very good for the gut box many famous men and women have been porridge fans ....anyway your thoughts on porridge
mmmmm porridge is awesome, i usualy have it for breakfast each day, with an apple, sultanas and some yummyscrummy maple syrup tis warm, makes you feel good, and keeps you filled up
i must admit i havent had porridge for aaaaaaaaages.... had some readybrek over xmas coz it was there and free and i was hungry, but its not the same... it just takes a while to cook... and microwaved porridge isnt as nice. if i had plenty of time in the morning to cookand eat a bowl of porridge i would've mostly likely have got some and eaten it... but as it is i get up as late as i possibly can... you know what, id have some porridge now if i could, im hungry
I just eat toast really with a full English breakfast. I know it's not very healthy but I never really put any weight on anyway. I know a lot of people like porridge but it's never really appealed to me, I guess I'm a rarety.
What a great topic of conversation. I am allergic to gluten which is in oats so I can't eat porridge. I do have Quinoa porridge sometimes but is doesn't really make me feel warm.
damn sorry you are allergic to gluten, thats awful I cant imagine how I would get on with out porridge . what does make you feel warm and how are you with soup
some soups have wheat flour or some sort of gluten to thicken them, my mate cant eat gluten and she says the only soup she can eat is heinz tomato soup, although ive found some other soups that are ok for her
soup, soup, a tasty soup, soup, a spicy carrot and corriander, chilli chowder, crouton, crouton, crunchy cubes in a liquid broth, i am gaspachio, oh! ....erm... forgotten the rest
i love porridge!! i have it with sultanas and seeds its yummy and its filling so i dont snack! which is gud for my waistline hehe
my verrrrrah Scotish grandmother ate "parritch" everyday for breakfast. The woman was rarely sick and was never in her life constipated... lol
Porridge is indeed a wonder food. For men years ago carrying arms it was light to carry but it filled them up. You'll know yourself how much porridge it takes to make a pot - not a lot. It'll keep you warm in the cold mornings too like the first poster says it's full of fibre and you won't be complaining about the cold. It's amazing what you can do after 2 plate of porridge in the morning i would highly recommend it to anyone. Some people take salt some even take sugar, i prefer it plain with no milk either. Preferably thick.
porridge is great and as I've now become a nutritionist, I recommend it to everyone (everyone without an allergy that is!). Regarding soup - ever tried home made? Its always better.
Home made soup is the BEST. I must remember to get a copy of my mothers recipe book, so much in it including home made broth which she used to cook in a giant pot with every vegetable imaginable in it including potatoes. She used to put a ham bone in it while she cooked it to give it extra flavour. Then she'd tell me here son get that down you it'll "stick to your ribs" You'll be hard pushed to find a more nutritious food than home made broth. Keeps you warm too like porridge
Whoops, i musn't forget the square sausage she used to put in it too. That was the "icing on the cake". You only get that in Scotland though, i remember asking for it in England and the waitress had a bemused look on her face.
My nana makes the best porridge ever! then top it off with a little bit of full fat milk to cool it off and some soft brown sugar, then all washed down with a cup of tea damn there's nothing better than that in the morning!
Nettles are an even better food as they grow in abundance and unlike oats contain no gluten so are great for people with a gluten allergy. Once they have been heated for a few minutes they lose their sting. They can then be used to make sandwiches, stew or tea. You can also store them in your freezer for autumn and winter when they don't grow.
