I have a book called Skeleton Key: A dictionary for deadheads. It's kinda dated but a very good read.
I would suggest any of these books! All very groovy *Grateful Dead: Illustrated Trip *A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of The Grateful Dead *Home Before Daylight: My Life on The Road With The Grateful Dead *Grateful Dead: Anthology II
Use your library and read many. All books are biased. I own Scully's because it was a gift. I have heard inside stories of scully and his "issues," so I read it with a bag of salt, shall we say? Dennis McNally's recent book was good, even if he IS the official publicist. The corporate meeting notes discussing Barry Fey and Red Rocks were worth the price of admission. He also tips his hat the the jamband genre that carries the torch forward. Be warned. Most books will tell some dark stories. Are you sure you want to know about clay feet? Also , read Mickey Hart's drumming books for a look into his mind and soul. Skip Wendy Weir's conversations with Jerry post-death.
