1. Rijksmuseum 2. Van Gogh Museum 3. Artis Zoo 4. Red Light District 5. Vondelpark 6. Canal boat rides The Rijksmuseum has a large collection of Rembrandt and Vermeer. 'Nuff said. The Van Gogh Museum has plenty of works from the Dutch master. The Artis Zoo is a 19th-century zoo, the oldest in the Netherlands. It's fun to go there and see the animals. On my second trip this was my favorite place. Vondelpark and the canal boat rides are romantic if you are going with a partner or loved one. Vondelpark is highly recommended in the morning or middle of the day, because strange people wander there at night. The Red Light District is a cool place. If you ever wondered what a city would look like if hippies could take it over, just think of the Red Light District of Amsterdam. I found the Botanical Garden a major disappointment. Perhaps it's because of the weather, but the plants all seemed wilted or dead. It definitely wasn't worth the 6 euros I paid for entrance. I would avoid the place to save time and some euros. Maybe it's much prettier in the summer, though. One of the coolest things you can do in the city is wander around and get a little lost, if you have the time. It's cool to see the city and take pictures, especially where the tourists tend to be lacking. One of the cheesiest things you will find is being stuck with dozens of other tourists taking the exact same pictures that they are and basically mimicking their behavior.
Hiya. Er, sadly, the Rijksmuseum is closed, has been for a couple of years and will be for about the same amount of time. — Johnny
Err.. just the fact they're building there and stuff doesn't mean it's closed. I've been there last year.
the jordaan is one of the coolest areas of the city. a good palce to wander and get lost, stop at random cafes and whatnot i am also a big fan of the plantage area. a nice little place to cruise through on the old bike.
