Anti-Choice is not about protecting children. If it were, Anti-Choice groups would be Pro-Children groups trying to help the million of children who are already here and need help in various ways. What Anti-Choice is really about reversing the sexual revolution and putting women "Back into thier place". If you don't beleive me, then answer these questions; What do you intend to do with 850,000 extra children that will born ? How low are you willing to go on adoption standards ? Are you willing to double the number of children in the foster care system in the first year ? or Do you really beleive, against all data and trends, people will stop having sex if they outlaw abortions ? I have never gotten satisfactory answers to these questions, which leads me to beleive that it is not about children, it is really an Anti-Womens movement.

I am both ways on this I guess.

It depends on the situation and circumstances. I was totally against abortion until last year when my sister had to have a surgical operation to scrape her uterus because she was having a molar pregancy (its basically where the fetus was only half developed and rotting inside of her) she could have died, and if she'd had a REAL abortion she might have been rendered sterile. She was only 15 at the time.

I think that if you honestly don't have the means to take care of the child then its your choice. But if you were stupid enough not to protect yourself then its your burden to bear and its your responsibility to raise that child to never make the same mistake you did.

    thats ridiculous........
how can you assume that somebody with the "means" to take care of an unborn child will still have those "means" for the next 18 years? Not to mention that an UNWANTED unborn child shouldn't be forced to be born just because his parents have means. Nor should the child be a form of punishment / a lesson placed on irresponsible people with or without means.

I never meant to say that the child should be a punishment because thats not right either. I just feel that if you were stupid enough to get pregnant, then its your responsibility to see that child born regardless of whether you give it up for adoption or otherwise.

It's not always a matter of being "stupid." Accidents happen.

    Accidents happen. Agreed.

But I'm willing to bet that about 80% of "accidents" is people forgetting condoms, or forgetting their contraceptive. Genuine accidents are rare I find.

thats what you said in the first post. Once again you are saying if you "should have known better" then "serves you right"? I think you need to just stop with this one....

I have to say I too have differing opinions on this matter. Abortion isn't a way of getting out of a responsibility, nor is it about taking responsibility for your mistakes. Admittedly, some people don't take precautions and use the ability to have an abortion as a reason for this. If they can get a termination within a week on the NHS, then why bother with contraception? On the other hand, there are people who make sure they are taking precautions - i.e. taking the Pill, using condoms, etc. People seem to forget though that there is still a small chance of pregnancy, whatever form of contraception you use. Sometimes mistakes do happen, and when they do, it's nice that women have the option to go ahead or terminate. Let's face it, if the child is unwanted from conception, then what sort of life is it going to have?

It is, in my opinion, a parents' right to decide if the pregnancy is a mistake. There are many circumstances where it is a good idea to consider abortion. Maybe it is a kind of murder, but if you have tried to protect yourself and it has let you down then what choice do you have? It's hardly fair on the child to bring it into the world when it's unwanted.

I agree.....but as for a "kind of murder" its the same kind of murder as stepping on an uninvited insect in your home. Saying otherwise is egocentric. Humans are no better or worse than any other life form.

I never said that humasns were any better than any other life form. What I meant was that when you have an abortion, you are not necessarily thinking of it as killing someone. I know I didn't. I was thinking in the best interests of the child.

i have to say it again that it's a hypocrisy that hippies oppose war while supporting abortion. if u guys do not think it as a killing, fine, but at least it's a form of violence, it is violent and bloody, thus we have to avoid it. we cannot do anything that is contrary to hippy principle of non-violence.

Everyone has their own right to decide whether having an abortion is right for them though, you cannot preach to others that it is wrong, because it is just your opinion. If you're just voicing that opinion, then fine, but don't try and tell others what to do and not what to do. That's just unfair. We all have our own private circumstances and no-one can play 'God' in deciding what is right and wrong for anyone but themselves.

by your logic, putting clearasil on a pimple is an act of violence. Not to mention your logic "it is bloody and violent, thus we have to avoid it" makes NO SENSE... you are using the logical form of a "if" "then" statement, but your conclusion doesn't logically follow from your premise.

ABORTION: A parent's righ or downright murder?

    BOTH

It's the sad truth, deal with it.

And besides, if you don't make available the PROPER tools and the PROPER ways to have an abortion, people will be running around having abortions illegally with damn hangers in back alleys. Risking the health and life of the mother. People will find ways to terminate their pregnancies...and they won't always be the most sanitary, "safe" ways.

Hell, the rate of abandoned babies in random dumpsters will probably sky rocket if abortion is made illegal nationally, or at least in the states in which it is illegal.

I totally agree with you here. there is nothing we can do to stop abortions, so why not just ignore the fact that it happens if you don't like it. You can't change it, so don't try!

This is nonsense, we CAN change it: there is a great change of illegalize abortion again, we should support it. look, in 9 supreme court justices there are 4 conservative ones: Thomas, Alito, Scalia, and Roberts, bush or next president just add one, 5 majority can be achieved, and no doubt the 5 justices majority are going to overturn Roe v. Wade.
A great opportunity for pro-lifes, advocate for next pro-life justice!
Also, for illegal abortion and dumping babies, just put the people doing them on electric chair or sentence 15 years in prison, see anyone dare to do abortion in black alleys.

You seem to forget that people will break the law, whatever the punishment, and so this electric chair rubbish you say will solve all will actually solve nothing! Why would we want to make abortions illegal? It is the mother's right to decide whether she has her baby or not, and in some circumstances it would actually be worse for the baby to be born than it would to have an abortion. You also seem to think that US law is the be-all and end-all of all arguments! Just because the idiot that is George Bush wants abortions to be made illegal, doesn't mean he is right. Remember, we are talking about someone who can't answer a simple question without 'advice' or being told what to say from his 'advisors'!!

Interestingly enough the catholic church appears to be totally against abortion as they are against all forms of contraception.

Also interestingly enough the largest percentage of paedophiles in any given profession happens to be that of priesthood.

Maybe the priests are worried that there won't be enough kiddies to fiddle with.

I did not say US law is the be-all and end-all, i just said it can change the situation of abortion in US if it's made illegal, at least decrease the number of abortion
Second, I do not agree that some babies are worse to be born. I cant imagine that some people have to die before they understand the meaning of death. If someone die after knowing the essence of death and meaning of life, he will die with grace and content. The babies just died without even seeing the world and knowing what is death and why they are facing death, it's so cruel for them. Women should let the babies be born and live, and they will die when they should, after they understand the world and death.
