So, my cousin wants me to make him a patchy padded bag for his drum. My question is should I put a zipper down the side or make it a draw string from the top. I dunno, can't decide..any input?
zippers are a bit tricky, I'd do a drastring at the top for sure, you can even buy one of those fancy things where you push in the button and it sort of locks in the drawstring, know what I mean?
Actually, It would depend on the height of the drum. Anything over 24 inches should at least have a closeable flap of some sort. to be really kind, make a pillow from the scraps that will cushion the head.
One more thought. The drum (in its bag) might be placed on the ground. Moisture can be wicked from the ground, through the bag and to the head. Bad news. This is mostly an issue for the drummer to take care with the drum. The bag designer can do little other than be aware of the potential problem.
reinforce the bottom! , only thing i can think of is....it might be a pain to get the drum in and out if there is a draw string ...zipper bags are what i use for my 14, 16 inch remo djembes, they seem to work really good , only way the draw string would work is if u made the top really huge , and definetly make the bag so that the head goes in 1st, it lays flat.
Hey I am going to be making some drum bags for me and my bf. Have you finished yours yet? I'd love to see a picture to inspire me.
Its all in peices right now. I pretty much just have 4 panels of earthy cord patches sewn together. As soon as I get it done Ill post a pic........
just for some inspiration: looks like zippers are dominant http://www.coloradocase.com/pages/Drums.html scroll to djembe case http://search.ebay.com/djembe-cases_W0QQfkrZ1QQfnuZ1 http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=44046 http://www.explorersdrums.com/01_037.html http://www.african-drums.com/djembe_drum_bags_large_ai.htm
