What are you? My: Economic Left/Right: -9.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.41 http://www.politicalcompass.org/
I hope I figured this right... economic left/right: -2 social libertarian/ authoritarian: -8 Peace and love
Well, I'm economic left/right -3.75 social libertarian/authoritarian -2.36. It shows I'm right around where Gandhi would have been, although I never really would have seen myself quite that way. It's interesting that so far no one has had a 'plus' reading.
Economic Left/Right: -4.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.23 In the third quadrant with the Dali Lama, Mandela and Ghandi. .
how many times is this thread going to appear, it's kindof annoying, it was cute, if innacurate the first time, but now it's tired.
Eugene, Hi. I searched HF (not archives) for the term "politicalcompass" and it yielded no results; when did a thread referring to this site show, many years ago ? Why do you think it is "annoying" and why do you think it is "inaccurate" ? If I 'get you' correctly you believe the representation of "left" and "right" and the two dimensional representation generated by www.politicalcompass.org to be inaccurate; they are certainly not anywhere near 100% accurate, I think we could all agree. Do you believe that one dimension categorizations of political beliefs, whether specific or general, are 100% inaccurate or do you believe that, in proper contexts, that they hold enough accuracy to be useful. If you believe that a one dimensional categorization can be useful then I fail to see how you could believe that a two dimensional categorization could not potentially be useful and more accurate than a one dimensional categorization ? Peace, David .
Eugene, Acknowledged, understood; the questions that you are inspiring are questions that I have often asked myself before and I think that they are important questions to ask since these types of distinctions are commonly made in politically-related discussion. It is interesting to note that we can indentfy the fact that there are different "whole political philosophies" for individuals and yet we are often not easily able to quanifty these philosophies such that we can immediately compare them. If we start with the idea that we know that there are differences between "whole political philosophies" for individuals and then list valid "sub-categories," these being "general issue categories," of these philosophies then we have a starting point for useful quantification. Peace, David .
Economic Left/Right: -0.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.59 Not many people call the thread 'political compass'.. it's [from what i can remember] a part of another point or something like that..
Economic Left/Right: 1.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.97 So I guess that puts me about even with Hitler on the left-right scale, and between Ghandi and Friedman on the vertical one.
Instead of the four multiple-choice answers, there should be at least seven. I would recommend that the survey include the following choices: Strongly Agree Moderately Agree Slightly Agree May or May Not Agree/Don't Know Slightly Disagree Moderately Disagree Strongly Disagree This would give better accuracy. Moreover, the questions need to address root causes rather than deal with symptoms. The underlying reason regarding why economic hardship, lack of medical insurance, corporate abuses and so forth exist in the first place need to be addressed. FTR, my scores were Economic -.5 Social-3.74
