Unfortunately they're going to pay for it with advertising on the connections, and they'll be tracking you to offer you ads from business near your location.

So google will not only know what you're looking at, but where you are too.

I'm beginning to see another hand behind Google...

    with the initials B.B.

Well just imagine you're online, sending an email containing the word "bomb".

By the time you send that, shutdown your computer, stand up, there's a swat team surrounding you.

THAT is a very real possibility with this system!

Yes, and though I hear people protest everyday, there're too many bastards don't care about their rights at all. And when the bureaucrats say u r great when u r a patriot, they say, ok, fuck those protesters. when the bureaucrats say u r a good citizen if u fool around here, they think they're really the owners of their nation.

coz i major in computer & optics, i know it's really easy to spy when u got the money & the proper equipments. the government even don't have to bother our companies. just intercept the light travelling in a optical fibre and decipher it, they know everything on net. consider they can decipher military codes, this is a piece of cake

you get what you pay for
google is offering this service for free. theyre not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, theyre a business, theyre out to make money. And theyre doing that by having advertisements. Advertisers are willing to pay more if their ads are targeting people who are likely to use their products, which means that google will be interested in what you are interested in, ie where you go on the net. Its not like your current ISP cant track what youre currently doing.

Infact, out of the 3 major search engines, I beleive google was the only one to refuse to hand over information about their users to the US government

if you dont want google to be able to see what you do online, you always have the option to pay someone else to provice you with net access, so they can see what youre doing online

hmmm, I think my mom's company made the hardware for all that jazz

Anyways, like MiGu said - they're a business, they have to run like a business, they aren't doing this just because they think everyone should have internet. If you're gonna be all freaked out over it, ruddy well dont' bother using it, just keep paying for the current service

I couldn't agree more. Some people are paranoid about anything and everything. I like to examine things deeper than your average person, but it's not good to live in a state of fear all the time. If you do then Big Brother has already defeated you.

It isn't very hard to figure out why they will display ads based on your current location in the city. They are going to generate a shitload of revenue with these advertisements from local businesses. Reminds me a lot of Minority Report. I don't really want to see the type of future depicted in Minority Report, but you do have a choice as to whether or not you decide to use it. It isn't being forced on anyone, so I don't see the need for preemptive paranoia.

you're a fool if you think anything put on the internet is private anyways

so it's a little more transparent than most other places are with their spam, whatever... don't use the service and you avoid making it easy for them, that's all

(but yeah, does remind of Minority report in a way... maybe we're headed down that path but only if people participate instead of abstaining from the start of that system)

Yeah, I'm guessing it will be one of the two also. ;) There's a simple solution to this. If you don't like it, then DON'T USE IT. It's a free service and it isn't being forced onto anyone. There are plenty of things that can be be used in an irresponsible manner, but that doesn't mean that we should freak out over the mere possiblity of it, and do away with it (Iraq & WMDs come to mind). I seriously think that you are blowing this out of proportion with your paranoia and overusage of exclamation marks. It's almost comical.
