Well, if her parents ever resort to stalking you (and she's not with you, of course), then you have every right to press charges on them. Ick, I hate overbearing parents... As long as you aren't doing anything illegal, police should have no reason to arrest you. Remember, cops are humans too and they do understand that sometimes parents can be completely ridiculously overbearing. And this may have something to do with the age of consent, because often times the age of consent goes hand-in-hand with the age that you can be legally declared an adult. Since she is 17, there is probably nothing her parents can do legally to keep you guys apart.

You guys should find a college that fits both of you and then you can be free to see each other without that issue. My last Gf was from a family of Orthodox jews that hated me when they found out about me. But we were in college and they werent able to controll that situation. You should understand that most girls aren't willing to throw away thier family over a relationship so if it ever came to it youd have think about converting.

    Which reminds me ...

You could very technically have HER parents get into trouble with the law, for stalking.

    (1) You could place a restraining order on her parents.

    (2) If it persists, they can be arrested.

    (3) I'm sure if you talked to a cop or lawyer, there are other things you could do legally.

    !

    Cops are not humans!

    They are swine! *spits*

    Okay, maybe they are humans.

But unlike most humans, I have actually been robbed by the police, intimidated and legally robbed by them (and never by anyone else). I would sooner allow myself to die than call the police.

    -_-* I really dislike them.

Well, MAYBE they're human, but it would be pushing it to say so. RandomDrunkGuy, if these people are "Christian", they should be reminded that Christ taught that they should love and do good to people even if they are their enemies, and you're hardly their enemy anyway. They should feel lucky that their daughter is with a guy that respects her beliefs (and her) enough to not just jump right in the sack with her. Whatever you do, keep the government out of your business as much as possible-the police and courts in this country are notorious for screwing up male/female relationships and marriages. In most countries the police or courts wouldn't even be thought of in these matters because they don't get involved in such things. Not here. If you go to www.ageofconsent.com you will see a table of laws for each state and country-in Washington state, a girl/guy can have sex at 16 if they don't initiate a complaint about it and are consenting. That's probably what the parents are thinking about, assuming you're porking their daughter. Anyway, if you can avoid it, keep the govt. out of it, because in my experience, they're real likely to screw something up. Good luck.

My friends and I were making a home movie. One of them has an apartment in a nearby city, so we climbed out onto the roof, and hopped a couple rooves until we got to an abandoned communal house (it has been vacant for years, and it's all torn up on the inside -- debris all over the place, old mattresses torn apart, holes in every wall, broken stairs -- the kind of abandoned that is truly abandoned).

In Pennsylvania (where it happened), the law says that if a property is abandoned (that is, there is no business conducted there, nobody lives there, and the owner has no intention of using it), no trespassing can occur there.

Anyway, so we went into the abandoned building to make a movie, and it was neat. We were making an awesome chase scene of one of the girls being chased by a guy, into the bathroom, and we did this awesome scene where she runs into a closet, jumps off the wall, grabs the rack, and kicks the guy into the sink -- turns out it worked too well, and his kidney hit the edge of the sink, and we got his pain on tape -- it worked great for the video!

Back on topic ... eventually we went out onto the roof, and were jumping around doing another fight scene and stuff. I was in the window, taking the video footage. Anyway, then I hear someone start coming up the stairs, so I look over, directly into a flashlight being pointed at my eyes, and see the outline of someone holding a gun pointed directly at me, so I'm like "oh shit" and put my hands up, and it's a cop.

He immediately takes us all out of the building, and because my three friends were on the roof, they don't get any charges, but because I was inside it, they charged me with criminal trespassing (not even simple trespassing -- CRIMINAL trespassing, which is total bullshit). The owner of the building wasn't reachable by the police.

Anyhow, they arrested me and I had 10 days to either plea guilty or plea innocent and send in a $50 collateral to make sure I show up for the trial. I read up about the laws, and pleaded innocent and sent in the $50.

A month later, I'm in the courthouse about to go into the courtroom for the trial, but before I go in, the police officer who arrested me pulls me aside and says, "we understand you're pleading innocent -- we filed criminal trespass charges, but we filed them as a misdemeanor, and criminal trespass is a felony with more serious consequences. We'd have to refile the charges which would result in jailtime if you were found guilty. However, if you plead guilty today, we will keep it as a misdemeanor."

I looked the cop straight in the fucking face (and I knew that he knew he didn't have even half of a case against me) and told him I came here to prove myself innocent and that's what I am going to do.

We went into the courtroom, I shook hands with the owner, the judge asks the officer for his opening statement, and he goes "well based on the fact that there was no damage done or harm intended, we're dropping the charges" -- of COURSE he's dropping the charges because he doesn't have a case, and I told him that straight up to his face and called his bluff, which REALLY pisses me off that cops try to sway your influence and get you into trouble you dont' deserve.

Anyway, I was told beforehand that I would get all of my $50 back.

Turns out I get back $11.85 because they took out court fees and I was fucking innocent.

So basically, the police arrested me wrongfully, charged me wrongfully, then tried (and failed) to bully me into pleading guilty to something I wasn't guilty of, and then the court robbed me of $40 even when I won the case before it even started. In other words, the police have the power to let the court take money from you, just because they can arrest you for no good reason and bully you around.

The whole thing still has me pissed off.

Haha, sorry to hear that but...well...here...*pauses to take a deep breath before she gets beat with a rubber hose* my boyfriend and I are actually friends with the cops. Keep in mind, this is only the 3 (that's right, just three!) deputies in our teeny town. Forget the police chief, he's a dickhole. But the whole department has a nickname for me, "Crash." I sort of...ran my car into the window of a convenience store. In a moment of complete sobriety! The car was actually in neutral, so it just rolled through...it will be a whole lot funnier once I get the money to pay my grandma back for spotting me a loan so they could fix it. Haha.

However, my feelings towards the Amarillo Police Department include a big middle finger and a wad of saliva hurled in their direction. They screwed me over and I am disgruntled. lol. But they did keep my boyfriend from going to jail one night, so all that I will do is flip them off/spit at them (of course when they aren't looking, because that's "against the law." Psssh).

So to make my case, so that no one thinks I'm a cop hugging...lunatic, most of the cops I've dealt with in the past few days have been extraordinarily nice and very human, but I still get extremely ansy everytime I'm in a car and they're within eyesight of me. Especially when Dan's driving, cuz well, he's not supposed to be (another thing the cops screwed him over on, suspended his license cuz he couldn't afford to pay surcharges from a bogus ticket). Okay, Hikaru, now you've got me all worked up about cops. Haha.

Sylvia, you live in Florida, he doesn't. The laws differ state to state, don't scare the kid unless you have facts that you can present.

    This is very true.

Their parents could put a restraining order on you.

Problem is, their parents cannot speak for their daughter.

Them putting a restraining order on you, would not be able to keep you away from their daughter, or their daughter away from you.

The restraining order would affect only the parents.

Hikaru Zero, that's a good story. Good for you, beating the rap, though the court fees get everybody in the end. :) (I had a ticket once for riding my bike at night without a headlight - I was told there was no fine for the ticket, I just had to get the light and show them - but when I got there what did I have to pay? Court fees of course! Hooray!)

I know there are laws about taking a minor over state lines, but I don't know if 17 is technically a minor. I say just be careful and try not to piss off her parents as much as you can. I know they are being unreasonable now, but if you do get married and have children some day you might want them to be a part of that.

Yeah, I almost got into trouble for that too, believe it or not ... =\

I was part of Critical Mass a couple times (monthly bike ride/protest in the city, usually blocks up traffick and attracts the cops), and didn't have a headlight. At one point, the cop said he was going to cite everyone without a headlight because it was after dusk. It never happened though.

But yeah -- our legal system is a NASTY one. And cops love to abuse their power, just because they think that no matter what they do, they're right, just because they're in uniform.
