Is it true that pot makes you more creative than you ever could have been if you never used it? Like if you want to write songs or make up melodies, you'll never do it if you never use drugs? I know that it enhances your senses, therefore enables you to get in touch with your feelings easier. But is it possible to get to the same level without trying it, if it takes a bit more work and some more time?
i got a theory on this one you have to have the songwritin ability there in the first place. drugs wont give you some magical power to write songs, if you cant do it sober. it merely enhances, not creates. and drugs wont necesarily make your songs better. all they do is open up another perspective, your writin the songs from a different angle, your mondset will obviously be different. you gotta have the talent there man...
i find i judge myself a lot less on weed (depends on my mood beforehand though, of course), and that makes creativity flow like mad.
I cant motivate myself to write anything while stoned. Probably because I usually toke at night, and if I play my guitar, it wakes up the parents.
Psychedelics have made me so much better at guitar...now im crazed up having to shake my head like crazy to keep up with the flow...i want to give everything to the guitar she accepts everything!! you just think vast and the vastness goes in the music. Then you are like a bomb you do what you want you amaze yourself and get into dreams of you playing on a scene and your not really in the room anymore...theres no rules with a guitar you pluck it pick it fuck it like you want, make it show stuff to you, just play!!! You know your doin good when you need to do gestures and facial expressions do stuff with your eyes to keep up! but when im sober i lack the super devotion to the guitar...its like the link between us is farther my songs start from improvisation like i talk in the first paragraph...then i realize this impro is rad , then for a few days i always jam on it until its a song. Pretty loose songs actually, more like jams, but could have words
Pot doesn't make you any more creative than drinking makes you a better singer, you just think you are. on the other hand, you have less inhibitions and will be open to more 'creative' things...
well look at eric clapton, his music shifted completely when he got off drugs...most ppl like the stuff he did when he was still usin drugs
while i'm a definite advocate for people's right to put whatever they want into their bodies, and while i believe psychedelics and marijuana can have a number of positive influences over a person, this is one of the more dangerous fallacies regarding marijuana. its a drug. just a drug. its not good or bad in and of itself, and it is not garaunteed to change you at all. everyone will have a different take on it and different experience with it, and everyone will be effected by it a little differently. to say smoking pot will make you more creative is like saying eating apples will make you healthy. marijuana use can be integrated into the life of a brilliant and mentally healthy, very creative individual, and may even be helpful to this end....SOMETIMES. but just like apples can be healthful foods, you certainly won't be benefitting if all you do all day is eat apples, if you dont eat anything except apples, or if you eat an apple a day but everything else you eat is deep fried mock-food. apples themselves wont make you healthy, even though in a certain situation eating apples can help you live a more healthy and beneficial life. smoking pot is like that....you certainly wont be happier, more creative, or anything like it if all you do all day is smoke pot, if you spend all your money on pot....you have to integrate it into your life in a way that is healthy and positive FOR YOU. you may find it will make you more creative, but i certainly havent experienced that and neither has anyone i've known. not to say its without any benefit, i've just not found that to be one. even if it CAN be for some people, theres going to be more to it than simply smoking pot.... and even if it can assist in creativity for some people or in certain situations, it wont turn an average joe into johann sebastian bach, so get any ideas such as this out of your head right here and now. it won't make you a more creative person, even if you have a wilder imagination when you're high. and creativity and brilliance are two very different things as well. smoking pot in an effort to better yourself as a person is rediculous... {let me clarify: being high can help you come up with some creative ideas you may not have had before as a result of seeing things in a different light. but smoking pot will not automatically trip a "creativity switch" inside of you that will make you an all out more creative person. similarly pot does not make you a more peaceful or loving person overall, even if you never feel like fighting people when you're all stoned and mellow...and so on. what i'm getting at is that ALL of marijuana's effects are PURELY temporary}
its an interesting topic, and is not black and white. cannabis can make most people more creative. most of my good friends become more creative while stoned, maybe thats just an observation because theyre more likely to be open with their creatitivty around me. but neurochemically, cannabis allows novel ideas to flow instead of existing strings of thought. 'creativity' is teh state of coming up with new ideas. psychedelics is definetely a creativity enhancer. but this doesnt mean your creative output will be greater. weed makes most people too lazy to be actively creative. it also pulls down many people's defences in a way that renders them slow and daft at doing certain activities or concentrating on something they want to create. but if you are already a very creative, and actively creative person, then cannabis will definately open up something new to you. for some, the new ideas that can flow are so abstract that theyre unwanted, and in others they can be beatiful to all observers. there are too many factors involved in what 'creativity' is that you cant say cannabis makes you more of it or not. anotehr point is that you might have a great idea while stoned but because the idea was so novel and special, it logically means it was not a strongly developed pathway in your mind (because if it was, then you would have probably thought it before in smaller segments), and is unfortunately open to being totally forgotten a second later. people who say that weed only makes you think youre creative, obviously either have simply bad imaginations themselves, never actually put themselves in a serious creating position, or got burnt out all the time (not a good position for creating). not all ideas are going to be good, but the best ones can come when stoned, and i know that ive reached a lot of people around me through the things ive thought and created while stoned. but not when ive been smoking a lot, only when;;; and this is very important in the case of creativity and perhaps the most important factor of all in this topic ;;; ive been sober more than ive been stoned lately. only then will the best creative juices flow, and there is a neurological reason for this which is for another day
