I'm somewhat bothered with the assumption implicit in the subgroups that all hippies were either around "back in the day" or are teenagers. I was born in '70 and by the time I was old enough to look, it seemed that hippies were as rare as hen's teeth. So I don't really fit in those subgroups, but at pushing 36 (wasn't the original statement never trust anyone over 30?) I'm definitely not a teenager either.
Don't let it bother you. I join in whatever thread I find interesting without regard for the sub forum. While their are some clique mentalities in every group there are also a few who will tolerate a forum "non-traditional" and actively include them in on the discussion. Yes, I've experienced the silence of exclusion; posting something that is ostensibly ignored with the true audience intent unfolding as said topic evolves but just as frequently I've enjoyed stimulating intelligent conversation with folks both older and considerably younger than myself.
Truly not something to worry about. When I was around back in the day I was not permitted to participate in all things wild and wonderful. That's why we are given second chances. I do not consider myself MODERN by any stretch of the imagination and I hold a good deal of my hippie values sacred to me.
My belief is don't worry about trying to fit into a group...be yourself, hold true to your beliefs...like minds will find you....there is no need to worry about weather you are fitting into a pre-established sub-group of society...as long as you are happy with yourself and the life you are living, then people of the same caliber will gravitate towards you......leave the attempt to fit a title or label,to the phonies....don't fret that you fell in a time continuim, that you think is between something that is based on perceived concepts....they are just titles, and actually mean nothing.....just be yourself and be happy
I'm with you on this. I posted a message in a thread a while back saying somewhat the same thing. There are about 100 different major forums on this board and within those some of them are subdivided into even more. I think there is a need for some categoried forums, but not 100+. It's ridiculous and spreads the community far too thin. Part of the strategy here is to get you to go to different forums...thus you will see 90 different ads instead of 10. Same with how many posts before you need to 'flip' to the next page in the thread. I don't see so much wrong with this strategy. It costs some money and time to run something like this, but I really think 100+ forums is out of hand. - Damian
^ well that had nothing to do with quoted text..but subforums are interest based and almost all created on a request or a noticed theme of posts. time to hang up the tin hats. but back to Chandra Shakti, I'm 37 pushing 38 and also mid gen freak. I remember lots of sorta hippie-types as a kid, less after we moved to the country (it was still 1958 there...weird...and scary as I got older) I just load up on the ego and assume the forums are for the adults, with a playground for kiddies and a nice village for geezers.. think of them as The Mall and Florida. Not really, but that outlook helps...
Actually if you reread what he wrote...It has everything to do with it. Flashbacks, Back to the Garden, and Old Hippies?? Come on. 16 different travel forums, with 2 different forums to post travel photos, and only 14 threads in the last 4 months in the general travel talk forum?? Splitting the community into more than 100 different forums is ridiculous. Where does this guy fit in? He doesn't, because there's no "Mid 30's hippy forum" ...laughing. - Damian
i was 18 when the original woodstock happened ................not for me to say who is and isn't a hippy .not for anyone else to say either........and i even know some of the original pranksters ..it's an attitude ....not age related or era related
I'm specifically referring to: Sub-Forums: Hippies -Back to the Garden Where have all the hippies gone? This is the place for old hippies to reconnect and find their long lost communal families. -Flashbacks Find out what was it like in the 60s & 70s from those who lived it! -Old Hippies This is for OLD hippies to rap about the old daze, what's happenin' now and to get it together... -Young Hippies For teens into the hippie lifestyle Nothing here for me unless I want to ask questions about the old days. I'm not complaining that I'm being ignored or judged. I'm not complaining about too many forums. If anything I'd like to see a subgroup for hippies in the middle LOL. Or preferably a subgroup that isn't age specific.
Chandra sweet lady, why don't you ask Skip for a Forum for middies, although I have always concidered 'Hippies' as more or less the mid hippie forum. My son was born in a commune in The Haight and was raised with hippies all his life. Like you he was born in 1970. In MHO I would think if you resonated with hippie lifestyle and groove with nature and the cosmos that you are hip, if you can look at the sunrise and become part of it's essents you are hip. If you Love, feel Compassion and pain, you are hip. If you help others because you care, you are hip. If you know that the system of things are not right, you are hip. You don't have to be stoned out to be hip, you have to be aware. I believe we of the 60s became Too Aware and had to block it out with Hard Core Drugs.. we saw too much.. Our generation was half Beat and half Hippie. We came up under the Beatnix. We put into action what they, the Beats thought of, we took it to the mat. We also taught our children The Hippie Way and less Beatnick philosophy. We were the action behind the thought. The young ones coming up became a different kinda hip, they became experienced without the motive or thought. The ones I know in their middle 30s, 7 out of 10 are strung out on ICE and have lost their children, homes, their bodies and minds. I think the DRUGS get in the way of free thinking and that's what Hippie is all about, Freedom!! Not drug use. By drug use I mean man made drugs. I strongly belive and live by what Nature provides. If man has altered it, it's posion to the body. The Middies are a more health conscious generation with more health issues then we had been raised with. Which in my belief evolved from mass production and quaility concerns. Middies are like the Middle Child, they see the old ways and the young ideas coming up behind them, as their children grow into their 'slots' and they grow in to our 'slots' and so on. They become the mediators, the peacemakers of society. Trying to find a balance in the two generations that they are caught bewteen. It's the way of the universe and part of our evalution to grow into what we are destin to become. sh
the Hippies general forum is probably the place to go for that or, yaknow, the whole forums set People tend to find various niche's around here, I wander in love and sex, women's, relationships, random thoughts young hippies mental health... as a start The whole forums are open to you, why not take advantage of them instead of being grumbly over there being no middle-aged hippie forum?
I am 42, so I am really in the middle...I was a little kid in the 60's but was raised in the counterculture, so this was the only life I knew. I am glad that I shook off the yuppie life and came home to myself. It's a whole lot more fun and defintely more peaceful when your mind is totally free. I look at the people around me who worry about who has what and spend their time trying to get better material things than their friends, and it saddens me, what has our world become? The kids seem so "angry", maybe another 60's change the world revolution would be a thing for them to work towards, they have the drive for it.
I realize this sis'. But your problem lies in the fact that there are subgroups at all. We should be unified not divided. Back to the Garden, Flashbacks and Old Hippies are essentially the same thing. Did you know there are 2 different forums to post your travel pictures in? Why...?? To some degree I can see some special interest forums. But not 100+. It divides the community far too thin. If there were 1000 new threads a day here... OK...maybe. But it's barely a fraction of that. Obviously I'm still here, so I think in some ways this place is great. I think it's awesome that it exists at all. Just wish there were far fewer forums with broader categories. It encourages posting and fellowship. - Damian
