Remember you can't "spot reduce". Meaning, you can't just work out particular areas of your body that you are unhappy with and expect them to go away.

Legs: SQUATS! that is all I have to say. Try lunges and step ups too, with weights. That is all you need.

When you say love handles, where exactly are you talking about? Do you mean your hips or your abs/obliques, or what? Just want to make sure I know what you are talking about before I give you advice. Thanks.

Hey, that's what I need too! I just posted on the Health forums about this, the need to reduce the bulkiness of my thighs. (To save repeating myself, have a look at my other post please).

    Thanks a lot.

love handles as in right below my natural waist, covering my hipbones.

squats definitely work thighs, but i always worry that they're going to create bulky muscle.

Yeh, that's my problem, see, because a lot of the sports and workouts that I've done all through my life have made my thigh muscles extremely bulky. So no squats for me! I do lunges and stretches hoping that this might elongate those bulky thigh muscles. Obviously it's not going to happen overnight ...

You can't just start doing intense crunches one day and expect that to work. You have to start off by doing at least half an hour of cardio every day.

i'm actually a distance runner, and run between 3 and 6 miles a day. why on earth thigh and love handle fat has stuck around i don't know...maybe my body's just stupid. i'm just trying to tone up these areas some so at least they won't look as flabby as they do...

Some people just have their body fat deposited there, It's genetic. With women there tend to be 3 main body types(but as with all genetic attributes there are other variations), it tends to be deposited either in a. the hips, b. the midsection, or c. the breasts. Since you can't work an area and have only it get thinner I would say just go for a generally health body weight and look for clothes that bring out your best traits.

I suggest along with your cardio to alternate a day or two and instead of running do either pilates or yoga. There are great techinques for firming and toning love handles and the thighs. Off hand a good love handle yoga pose is the triangle you can search it online. Thigh circles are a great exercise which is a pilates exercise if you would like more info just let me know i would be happy to assist

LOL. Yeah why bother listening to a professional.

Doing these exercises combined with a good cardio workout and proper nutrition will not result in you having "bulky" thighs (unless you still have fat on top of muscle). It will result in you losing weight all over and a toned look to your legs. I have made countless programs with these exercises in them and every time the clients have lost weight (in their thighs as well as everywhere else)

I don't know what else to tell you. Try a kickboxing class or something I guess. Also you could do rollerblading or ice skating.

As far as your hips, you would do the same exercises that I suggested. I wasn't sure if you meant hips or obliques.

I say give it a shot for at least 3 weeks and see what happens before assuming that you will bulk up (unless you are taking some mexican vitamins that you haven't told us about).

And throwing the Yoga in there is good to give you a well rounded workout routine, plus it is just good for the mind as well. :)

    Good Luck!
