Why can't we teach these girls that they can get positve attention by being intelligent or hard-working or compassionate? I think there is a bigger problem about WHY these little girls are trying to get attention in this way. This is the real issue.

And.. yeah... I was pretty mad last night.. over it.. but I still think there is an issue here. I want girls to know how it feels to be something other than physical appearances. I want girls to know that it is GREAT for girls to be smart and that they don't have to act dumb to get attention.

it's something they have to learn on their own. you can talk until you're blue in the face, and all they'll hear is "blah blah blah i'm jealous" whether that's what you said or not. everyone has their own walk in this life. this is part of their's. for you, i suppose coming to terms with the fact that complete strangers can piss you off so badly on a bad day may be something to address. you can't change other people, but you can change how you view them and how they affect you. it's a positive thing, i think.

I wish these were complete strangers, but actually they were girls that are having a rather huge impact on my life right now...

is it wrong to dress in way that draws attention to yourself?

Does everyone who dresses 'slutty'(who decides what is slutty?) do it for attention?

edit: no one should prejudge why someone dresses the way they do. Just because they choose to wear something you wouldn't does not make them a bad person, it doesn't make them attention whores, or anything else bad.

first of all... dude if you have that point of view NEVER HAVE SEX!!

second... who gave you the right to determine whats sluttyy? personally sometimes I have a hard time finding cute shirts that fit me right that covers my boobs completely.. and I cant help it that my ass is that big.. kk thanks...
and just because someone dresses in a way you deem inappropriate doesnt mean they dont have class....

but on the flip side.. I do agree some girls take it to far but its their life.. and their not getting the right attention from guys.. their just having fun and Im sure that they wont be getting married and having a life with any of these guys...

The biggest thing that bothered me about this post was that you ended it with "I hate men!"...and I don't get it. Guys will be attracted to what they're attracted to, and to group all men and say you hate them is unfair. There are a lot of men out there who choose brains over beauty, or inner beauty over outer beauty. Then again, is it wrong to find certain women more attractive than others? Are you going to tell me you don't find certain men more attractive than other men?

With that said, I can see what you're saying. I sometimes work in a school and believe me, my view of society and of the youth of today is getting shittier and shittier by the day. It's not so much the sluttyness that gets to me, 'cause whatever...to each their own. It's more the way modern society in general is. All these young people (I'm talking like 12 and 13) in school with cell phones, and spending their nights on myspace, and quoting lyrics from rap songs (no offense to those who listen to rap). I wonder where their parents are. Not all young people who do these things are wastes in society, but man, sometimes I just lose all hope.

Another thing, how the fuck do you think these girls learned that all you need is attention from a guy, regardless of how they get it? Have you TURNED on a TV lately? Have you read a magazine lately? Have you opened your eyes lately?

And one more thing, as said by previous women, slutty doesn't equal stupid. There are a lot of sexually comfortable women (some may call slutty, but again, who's to say what slutty is?) with just as much brain power as sex appeal. But then again, I can see what you're saying. A lot of women (namely younger ones) believe that looks are everything and intelligence doesn't matter. It's a sad predicament.

I don't think I took one stance or another in this response. I can see a lot of different sides. Society in general is just pissing me off lately...lol.

there was this woman i worked with who dressed provactively, was way cute, had this precious little voice, and was one of the best oil field suppliers in the region. the brain on this woman was insane, and did she ever have moxy. she was better than radar o'riley on MASH. she could find absolutely anything and get it to you in no time flat. naturally, the women hated her, but i gotta say, that woman was a super-badass. she'd put on her outfits, load up her truck and drive shit wherever you needed it. that bitch was my hero. i liked the hell outta her.

my friend's ex-wife, ginger, is this gorgeous little blonde haired, blue eyed thing. know what she does? she's a welder. and she's good.

my baby sis, again, gorgeous blue eyed blonde clothes horse. she likes to party, have a good time, and just got her longshoreman's card last thurdsday. she's gonna be a big crane operator.

just because you look/act/dress one way doesn't mean you're a mindless drone. just because these women have pride in their looks doesn't mean they're incapable. in fact, considering their chosen industries, i think it's very brave of them. men are hard to convince of your abilities, especially when you're pretty. Ever see North Country? i've endured all sorts of troubles, back when i was thin and working. didn't matter if i dressed provocatively or not. i had huge tits, small waist, wide hips and apretty face. jeans and t-shirt were provocative. it just doesn't matter.

Not exactly. The media manipulates individuals.

true, but i'm living proof that people can defy the media. so we just have to support each other. we're each responsible for it.

All true. Some brilliantly reasoned posts and I can see there's obviously more than one angle to all this.

What annoys me about "the younger generation" (boys and girls) seem to lack ambition, interests and hobbies (other than what is ruthlessly marketed to them to be the in thing), they just seem totally apathetic and disinterested in the world at large. In the town where I was born, I have grown up seeing what I term the "clones" ... packs of young so-called trendies who leave school with little or no qualifications, no idea of what they want to do with their lives, collect their pay on Friday, and blow it all over the weekend on binge drinking, etc. Such shallow lives. I always had to have more in my life than just that. I find that far more irritating than girls in minimal clothing, it's the lack of ... well just the lack of anything at all that some of these types exhibit.

Having said that, at my workplace, we have a young girl trainee. She is focused on learning her job, pleasant personality, and yes she is stunningly pretty. She and others like her are a credit to their generation.

I don't have children of my own, but I would want the same for my partner's children.

yeah, well, those shallow lives are nothing new in this world. not everyone is made to excel, nor do they want to. they just want that simple 9to5 to pay for their real life, which is on the weekend, with their friends. all my life my family wanted me to be the super woman power broker type. never once in my entire life did i dream about what job i wanted. so far as i can tell, the job is just what you do to pay for your LIFE. now, some people have a vocation, wanna make change and improve the world their way. me? all i've ever wanted was a home and a family that was a joy to be around. i've never had that before, so it was extremely important to me. those lives are not shallow, they have their own rewards, even if it's not for you. if you don't build a child a platform, a jumping off place, the odds of them taking flight are slim to none.

Agreed. In an ideal world though, money wouldn't = life.

No, I'm sorry. I didn't necessarily mean to excel at a career. Having a family is an ambition in itself, just the same as having a career. Bringing up children is a career, the long hours, the dedication, etc. The kind of people I was referring to have absolutely no idea of what they want for themselves, or for others. I'm hardly a powerful career woman type, nor would I want to be.

Also very true. Children need to be encouraged if they show aptitude or interest in an activity.

I guess I just didn't phrase my post very well, what I was trying to convey.
