so i had my whole head done qith twist and rip and my hair was all sticking up everywhere and all crazy like. thats because they were new and short. so i go to a private school and they were trying to get me in trouble for them i am so angry.they were only like a week old. so they called my mom and told her i could either take them out or i could get suspended till they come out. my mom argued against them for like an hour and so did my dad. but eventually my dad just got pissed and hung up on them. so my dad made me comb most of them out so it would look like all of them where gone. and theyr still pissed. they said on monday they should either be all out or i have a new haircut or im gona get suspended. im just gonna leave some in and let them grow naturally over the summer. theyll never know what is gonna hit them next year. if they try to pull it again i might just have to kill them.
unfortunately your school has every right to ask you to take them out, as does any of your future employers. It sucks I know but you should have checked with them before you got dreadlocks. They will make you take them out again so why waste your time letting them grow again. It seems ridiculous
Make then show you a specific policy in their handbook that says you cannot have them. This IS total bullshit. There was a similar case (back before facial piercings were largely popular in the US) that a girl had her eyebrow pierced and the school tried to make her take it out. They just didn't like it but it violated her rights because she wasn't doing anything. Bravo for your parents for sticking up for you!
it's a private school though, they can suspend him for anything they want. and even if it was a public school, your rights are extremely limited
I will never understand people hating against dreads. before brushes/combs were invented everyone had dreads. grrrrr at society.
Well it is a counterculture thing and some people are threatened by it I guess. I see nothing wrong with clean, well kept dreads. I am guessing they wouldn't allow black students to "fro" their hair out either? (I am not being sarcastic, I am just saying I am sure it would be against policy as well). Some places have strange policies. There was a man who was a police officer who had dreadlocks. He was in fact Rasta, and they tried to make him get rid of them! (they ended up not being able to. It clearly is discrimination) Let everyone be! Yes, private schools can make up any rule they want, unfortunately.
That is racial discrimination and you have a right to stand up for yourself. Please do not try to get THEMin trouble, but simply point out that the only difference is your race.
Get up, stand up. For your rights. I go to a private school too, had they tried to stop me dreading my hair I would have fought, and if they insisted I take it out I would leave. Good for your parents, standing up for you! Just keep fighting, and good luck
