Not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes ...

I used to do lots of sports when I was younger, especially gymnastics, cycling, trampolining and cross-country running. The result of this is that I have ended up with HUGE thigh muscles, over-developed from too much of the same activities. My current job doesn't help, because I have to climb lots of stairs very frequently throughout the day, due to the layout of our office premises.

I feel that my legs are very masculine and I cover them with trousers or long skirts most of the time. But I love to bare them in the summer months, although I feel very self-conscious of my unfeminine muscles.

Is there a non-surgical, non-invasive way of reducing some of the muscle bulk to give a more feminine shape? If I work out, it only pumps the muscles up again, and if I don't, my thighs get very flabby. It seems I can't win! Trying to diet doesn't help me lose bulk from the thighs.

    Any suggestions?

I'd like to know, too. Stupid basketball camp when I was a little kid (mixed with all my other rambunctious childhood activities) gave me what have been "affectionately" referred to as "Thunder Thighs." Meh. I'm really self-conscious of my legs, too. I still haven't found any methods of getting rid of it...I'm not sure that you really can...

Hi Ramona, sorry to hear you're suffering from the same problem, although you're much younger than me. At times I wish that I'd not done so many physical activities as a child and adolescent, because the older you get the harder it is to shift weight, whether it be muscle bulk or just plain yukky fat. But at the time, I loved doing all that sporty stuff and it suited the way I was back then. When you're a kid learning to do gymnastics and trampolining, you don't think of what it will do to your body shape, etc, in years to come.

I had thought that maybe if I take up jogging (although I hate it) that might lengthen the thigh muscles, rather than bulk them up as all this stair-climbing does. What do you reckon? Worth a try?

This may sound over-dramatic, but a couple of pairs of trousers/jeans that I bought as recently as last summer simply won't go on over my thighs now. So in just under a year, the stair-climbing at work has visibly increased the girth of my thighs! I am having to buy larger sizes just to fit my hefty thighs ... thunder thighs is right ... but that has the effect that the leg length of the larger size trouser is too long and they are very baggy at the waistline!!

yep...same here. i'm a small-ish person, but have disproportionately large thighs. jeans just bother me, so i generally wear either skirts or my younger brother's cargo shorts! unfortunately, bulk is bulk, be it muscle or fat. running's given me muscle, but when said muscle leaves, it leaves bulky fat. my waist is somewhere between a 2 and a 4; my thighs protest (or rather, the jeans do) when jammed into a 4 or a 6.

    i wish i had some suggestions, but i don't.

I figure running's always worth a try, I always seem to be able to fit into my smaller pants right after every summer (I'm usually pretty active during the warm months). But I'm with everyone else, my butt is kinda big, though, so it's pretty proportionate with my legs, but it's murder getting into correctly fitting pants. They should really size female's pants better. I have to wear belts just so that my butt won't show because the waists of my jeans don't fit, but they're almost too tight around my thighs/butt. Ack. Not to mention, not every size 9 is 5'6" (I'm only 5'1", so every pair of pants I have drag the ground). I think it's high time to start looking towards having my clothes specially made...lol. Makes me feel like I'm shaped funny, though.

I know what you mean. I was a ballet dancer for 9 years, I did gymnastics, a lot of running, biking, and I was also a cheerleader in my younger years. My thighs are thick and I have always hated it. No matter what I weigh, they're still on the thicker side. It's my least favorite part of my body.

Well I suppose now I know that I'm in good company. :sunglasse

I haven't started that jogging regime yet ... though as from today I will have to walk further to get my bus home from work, as the bus stop has been changed! I'm hoping that maybe the extra walk will help ... dream on! :p

running's good, but it bulks up my thighs too....stick to level ground, though, and you'll probably be ok.

Thanks. I do a fair amount of walking but now the better weather's on its way I intend to go for longer walks. I'm still not keen on the whole jogging thing but I love a long walk, sometimes fast, sometimes slower, depending on mood, whether I'm alone, etc. I always walk faster when I'm on my own.

Maybe I can build up, start by going on a reasonably long walk, and do short bursts of jogging interspersed with longer spells of fast walking. That sounds like a good plan.
