Up here in the Keystone state, which aside from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, is a solid, rural, redneck state which has more forested area except for Alaska, we are awaiting the morels. It rained here for 2 days and it's supposed to get up near 70 the next 3 days--PERFECT WEATHER for morels!

Down Hillbilly-hippies way they may be already getting them. Good! Gene and Diligaf could tell you how good they are, but since I haven't seen any of their posts recently, I must conclude they are either dead--killed by Mothman or the Men In Black--or, they fell drunk over Oferkernokee Bridge.

I'm sure they'll turn up, perhaps with a review of my novel-- "A Haven From Violence", available from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Just Google it up!

(I tried Googling Gene & Diligaf-- maybe ShamelessCow is holding them hostage)

Somehow, I have a feeling that Capt Seaweed and Teepi may be mixed up in this Godfather-wanna-be nonsense.

    Only time will tell.

Me, I'm getting drunk for the first time in 6 days. ( My record sober was 16 days. I felt like a tree.)

I am jealous...being in the construction business for 30 years...I have built subdivisions over all my old morel honey holes:mad: so finding the golden spores has gotten harder with the passing of each year.I would love the opportunity to get my hands on a 5 gallon bucket full of filet's of the forrest.I have the crappie slabs...I just need the morels...to complete the redneck feast:D

The best spot I had, on Monocacy Hill, was tore up for houses. There is still about a 100' wide buffer strip where the yellow ones come up. For 4 years in a row, I still searched in that strip, and for 4 years straight some ignorant house-wife type panicked seeing me with a stick and a 5 gallon-bucket wading through the sprouts behind her yard (it wasn't her property).

The last time I was fruitlessly there, she came out in the backyard and commenced questioning me in an imperious, irritating manner: "May I help you, sir? What are you looking for, sir? May I help you?"

This airhead had asked me the same question for the last three years, and, for the last three years I had told her I was hunting mushrooms. Stupid yuppie fucks like her have no memory, unless it would be the location of a trendy restaurant. So, when the fucking retard asked, "May I help you, sir?", I replied, "Yeah, come up here and help me find some morels". She assumed a shocked attitude and said my favorite disgusting rejoiner: "EXCUSE ME! WHAT DID YOU SAY!", as if I were speaking Coptic Greek and she was an Egyptian.

I repeated: "Come up and help me find some mushrooms." She glared at me as if I was a Viking marurder, come especially to rape and pillage her and her McMansion. Then, she ran into her yuppie fortress. I expected the local cops to arrive, but they didn't-- not that I gave a fuck: I knew some of them, and the ones I didn't know would have been impressed by the names of the state cop's I do know, who hunt at my farm , drink with me occasionally and consider me crazy but lovable while they keep their side-arm loaded and ready.

But, that was many a drunk ago--a new season approaches.

    Happy hunting, Diligaff! And, Teepi-too!

I found 4 small blacks last Sat. On Wed., I found 11 big blacks. It's been real warm, but dry. This weekend it's pouring rain, 2-3 inches and it's going to be warm next week. I have a feeling I'm going to score BIG!

Happy hunting to the rest of you. (Diligaf-- get HHB to quit pounding on his drum and get out in the woods hunting!)

Those cone-spiky things I've often seen--they look like black morels from a distance. I don't have a clue what they are--I've only seen them at one spot, a nature preserve.

I've only seen Indian Pipes once in my life-- on our property, in a stand of aspens. Properly, they aren't really a mushroom, but then again, morels aren't either. Supposedly Indians thought these ghostly-white tube-like protrubances were the fingers of dead warriors reaching up from the soil.

However, if that were true, they would've dragged me down into the underworld with them.

    Sometimes, I wish they had.

But, what if they had? My poor pussycats would have followed me into Hades as Ulysses did. Since they hate water, they couldn't have crossed the River Stynx (sp.), and I would have been abandoned there with no beer, chew, vodka or internet connection. (No Hank Williams or Hank, Jr. or Hank III, either, at least on CD--I'm sure Hank Sr. would be in person to sing for me.)

How horrific would that have been?

The only thing I recognize is the turtle-- maybe he ate all the morels.
