this question came from a debate with my friend. when i showed interest on history of Austria-Hungary he insisted that nobody would care about it b/c this state does not exist anymore and it has long been forgotten. I disagree with him, I think all people and all state should be remembered and written into history.

None of history exists anymore.. That's why it's history. I'd like to know history in full were such a thing possible. :D Whether or not those places are still around, the history of them is no less important.. Things aren't just how they are.. Everything else lead up to it, including nations no longer around..

um, byzantine history isnt lost....it doesn't need to be rediscovered. I have a friend working on her PhD in byzantine art.

It is a lot easier to study the austro-hungarian empire/byzantine etc because they have written history. It is a lot harder for groups of people who do not.

i think scholars study these things all the time. Do you mean should the austro-hungarian history be apart of schooling in america(pre college)?

Well...we already have enough crap to teach kids and we arent even doing a good job teaching that. So no, i think that should be left to college where kids can choose to focus on that.
