Simple solution for illegal immigrants

Create a national minimum wage. That way the corporate and business world would have no reason to hire an illegal immigrant just because he/she is illegal and willing to work for less over a citizen.


The root of the problem is not the "illegal immigrants" it is the corporations that are wowing them over in-order to drive the cost of American labour, regulations, and standards down.

 

How would this stop immigration?

 

Most companies that hire illegals don't care about minumim wage laws that are already in place. The whole reason they hire illegals is that then they don't have to pay minimum wages, provide any benifits such as workers comp ect.. and they can keep substandard safety practices in place.

Why, because an illegal can't exactly go blow the whistle to OSHA now can he? The only way to stop the problem, IMO, is to enforce stiff penatlies on companies that hire illegals.

 

The corporate government is at fault here, it allows people to come illegally when it could allow them to come to America legally to justify the above arguments. They came here illegally, it is not our fault, we just hired them, American aren't willing to work doing such jobs when in fact Americans aren't willing to be paid such low wages.

It won't, it will just protect American workers and reduce corporations from exploiting cheap labour.

So many "illegal immigrants" come over because they know they will find employment.

 

Don't know about USA but UK has minimum wage and the amount of imiigrants ( not necessarily illegal ) is very very high and increasing,
for two reasons - even the minimum wage here is better than in their country - they are more prepared than we are to work for it,than us

or.. as in S.Africa, the exchange rate is phenomenal - for every 10 pounds they earn it's 120 in their money.

or.. as in some E.European countries,we have more jobs available - and whats more are more accepting of them.

But instituting a minimum wage wont stop them, the illegal aliens who work now, mostly are paid under the table, they are working illegal as it is.

 

Moreover, unbridled immigration from Mexico would make it very difficult for many US workers to earn more than the minimum wage.

 

You can not get Americans to work those fields, they cant handle the work, look at it! You can check that out, even legal farms in CA cant get anyone but asians and hispanics to work those fields, its hard ass work for cheap pay.

There is a minimum wage in the US but NAFTA that helped so much for the Mexicans or so they claimed seemed to not slow down the illegal imagration one bit. All NAFTA did was allow US corporations to assist in the exploiting of cheap foriegn labor and take jobs away from here. Most corporations are sending out for out of country labor, such as china, mexico ect. Remember the average income for China per year is under $400.00. IF we stop buying lots of non needed items from foriegn suppliers and also from companies that claim to be us made but just are assembled here not actually made here then we can start to see a reverse. You also need to change lifestyles, no more "ME" thinking but rather "US". When you work together, save together, share together ect you tend to cut out execess.

Share yard tools, order in bulk for groups, share machines, cars, if you have to have satellite TV then order it with the extra recievers and share them with others and split the bill, if you live in apartment, get wireless hub for internet DSL and then you can share with others in building again cost splitter and takes a bite out of the corporations that supply, carpool, ride bikes.

Could you imagine a 4 bd home with recroom and 4 single couples for 1 year would be like under $300 a month per couple and you save up for that one year.

When I was 18 I had a great job, good money and before I was 19 I had my own condo, a nice car and great future. The day after my 19th birthday I broke my back in 4 places and lost it all. Was messed up for many years, until I was 32 years old actually and stopped listening to doctors and taking there meds. Im 36 now, I owe nothing to no one and own a nice little 3 bedroom home. Even bought my ex wife a house, cash no loans. I lived with a group of people, it was hard at times and fun many times but for one year I saved and had enough money to pay half down on a fixer upper 3 bedroom. The loan company did a credit check but since I put so much down did not care my credit was piss poor (credit score at time was 520) I had late pays, charge offs, and collections. They prayed I would fail.

Anyway kinda drifted badly, its not the wages that are creating the immagration issue here but rather other people in the world can live with so so much less than we do. We are kinda spoiled, I mean multi tv's, multi cars, multi computers, dvd players vast collections of music and movies ect. I mean I now have over 1300 dvd's myself, are they needed, hell no!

Most Mexicans do the labor we would not be caught dead doing, they work damn hard, love to see em at shippers and recievers because they work and work fast. Sorry but most union loaders are slow as hell.

RAISE the pay, to livable levels, make the workplace safe (like companies and farms are already SUPPOSED to do) and Americans will HAPPILY take the work.

The corporate fiends INTEND to make the jobs intolerable, just so they will have the "no Americans will do these jobs" excuse. NO ONE should have to work for that money, in those conditions. There is no reason, why in this country ANYONE should be hired like this. Raise the wages, make the workplace safe and give the workers doable hours. Beleive me, Americans will do the jobs.

 

That's not going to happen, the government can't regulate that many people, these businesses aren't hiring mexicans legally.

 

By all means, there are NO WAYS to stop illegal behavior. Why make laws at all? <Heavy sarcasm>

 

Would you listen to me please, I'm saying that their is no way to stop these companies from hiring aliens to take jobs for substandard wages, sure, you can make laws, yes, we should make laws, but those laws aren't going to stop it.

 

The laws should at least be attempted to be upheld. If I said "People are going to a)smoke refer, b) have abortions c)see prostitutes despite laws against it, would you have the same reply? I AM trying to listen to you, beleive me.

What I find odd (and a bit interesting) is that some of the far Left and some of the far Right are coming together on this issue. (See my and Huck Finn's posts.) I actually find this refreshisng.

 

Ever pick apple's? A Mexican will out pick you 3-1, "been their done that,many moon's ago". you dont get paid hourly, you get paid by the bushel. It's NOT that the farmer's WONT hire local's, they"the local's" just WONT do it.

 

Here in Ohio most of these illegals are not working in farms for sub standard wages, they are taking our construction jobs, our restaraunt jobs, they are working for just a few dollars less than the americans. But companies don't have to keep benifits, pay social security tax, unemployment or overtime.

Tell me americans don't want these jobs, or won't work them. Because it isn't true.
