Hello again from Dave and Di. Well with all the turmoil in Paris, we've decided to skip that part of our trip. Instead, we'll be staying the whole week in the Dam. As a result, we have 4 more days with no plans at this time. We had trouble finding a hotel room for those days (April 13th -16th) and were wondering if something special is going on that weekend? We'd like to get out of the city a couple of those days to see some of the country. Day trips. Any suggestions? Di wants to see castles. We're aware of the Muiden site. Any others of interest within a daytrip radius? Anybody want to go with us? We would love to meet some of you locals who's posts we've been reading, as well as other travellers. We're there from the 10th thru the 16th. We've heard that it's going to be a late spring over there. We were sure hoping to see the tulip fields in all their glory. Are we gonna be to early? I'm sure we'll do the canal tours and all the typical stuff that us tourists do in town, but we'd love to escape the city and experience some of what most unaware tourists miss. Also, Dave wants to get his first tattoo while we're there. We've seen lots of shops on the web. Any suggestions? Don't know what I want it to be yet, but something that will symbolize our stay in your city. I can hardly sport a pot leaf at the morning meetings at work, so again, suggestions? One other request, if one of you locals would look at the extended weather forcast and drop us a line, we'd really appreciate it. We're so excited to start our vacation even though we're quite bummed about cancelling our Paris plans. Hope we hear from you guys/gals and are anxious to hear some of your ideas. See ya all on the 10th. Thanks. Dave and DI.
Gosh, I don't think anyone gets there until late in the month. I arrive the morning of the 16th(Easter Sunday) and have no plans. I know the place like a second home. Will you be there all day on Sunday? Yes, your timing is perfect for the flowers blooming. They will be everywhere. Kukenhof Gardens is a very short trip and flowers as far as you can see if that what you want. So, if you want to smoke with SinPusher, just be at Central Coffeeshop across from Centraal Station at 10:00am on April 16th, and we can go from there. I would be happy to take you to Haarlem or Beverwijk, but I think on Sunday the best place to be is Amsterdam. sp Oh yeah, I don't look like my avatar. But "I feel good".
Davi and Di, This is an offer you shouldn't refuse........Sinpusher is very knowledgeable and in our exchanges another very nice person. Good hands to be in.......
Right on. We'll be there and thanks. We are going to be there all day Sunday. Our flight out is Monday afternoon. Looking forward to meeting you. Are you coming in solo or part of a group? We're assuming your not really James Brown, so you'll be able to recognize us by Daves hair (long and gray. but not as gray as his beard.) Di is a red head, and we'll probably be grinnin from ear to ear. Hee hee, can't wait.
Cool, I will be by myself to start. Meeting people along the way that day. All locals too. Some very colorful. sp see you there
Everything in the country is pretty much within a daytrip radius, and there are so many towns and places that i wouldnt know what to recommend. As for the flowers, it should be the perfect time to see them, but the weather's been off and so everything just looks a little different. Nature's confused i guess. I was just staring out the window today during my trainride from Amsterdam to Leiden, which is where most of the flowerfields and all are, and i saw some narcists but thats about it. Its a bit standard maybe, but i couldnt think of anything better as inspiration for the tatto than this:
hey myrtje, can you translate the three words for me? frugality, justice, bravery.....or something right?
No both mean thank you, its just that - like in french - we have 2 words that mean 'you'. Je is what you say to someone you know, or someone obviously younger than you are, its informal. When you talk to someone you dont know, or - when youre not one yourself - an adult in general, you use 'u', its polite and formal. Dankje is just common cause because of its informality it sounds friendlier.
Hey SinPusher are the Coffeeshops all open on Easter Day with my daughter? I'm Arriving on Easter and will most likley see you at Central Coffeeshop.
Yes, they are open. See you there. I might be a little after 10am but I will be there. I think my flight arrives at 8:45, so depends on how fast I catch a train.
