You're no punk. You're outnumbered but you still hold your train of thought? And you're probably thinking whatever and flipping this off. Or whatever. How much more punk do you want to be?

who the fuck cares! When punk started out it was a damn name! (one u didnt want to be at that) thats all!
I could say the sex pistols version of punk defeats the iggy pop/ramones/NY dolls etc. purpose of punk by not even having a purpose. Hell if you have energy and dont give a shit about whos considering u punk or not! then your punk in my book!

I think that punk is really overused to describe all these new bands. They just use it to look rebellious and get some sort of support for the wannabe, too lazy to do anything about it teenager who wants to make a statement.

Worse than the 'punk' bands is the people that listen to them. They're wanabe anarchists (if thats a real word, i think it is). And they act all in to the old punk bands to and act as if they know all about it.And they try to make out as if they're the ultimate rebel.

Oooh, haha. AON was right, this is a funny thread. There's a thread about this thread over in the Mink Fuck forum. You guys kind of have a little following going on. BTW, "old school" punk (the Frogs, Sex Pistols, Ramones etc. . .NOT Nirvana) had no political message whatsoever. It was all about being worthless and usless, that and breaking shit occasionally.

man i agree with a lot of the first part... btu what about the people who truly do believe in anarchy and are into punk rock? and if the wannabe teenagers are in the punk scene, let them be you know? hopefully in time they will come to understand it. punk was orriginaly made for fun, theres anarcho punk, but theres also just the live and let live punk. so its wrong to genaralise that all people that listen to punk are wannabee anarchists. thats like saying all people who listen to regea are rastafarians. what if someone is truly an anarchist and listens to punk? then because of a statement like the one above, they get called a poser and shit because of what they like and believe.

anyhow. theres lots of different types of punk rock... but too many new bands are called punk such as simple plan. its sad to think that people actually concider them punk. fucking sell outs...

i've been called a "punk" alot. they're like "so, im glad i actually get to talk to a real punk, why do you dress like you do" and stuff like that. but im into peace, and the grateful dead. i dont know. a label is a label, and there far too much meaning behind people to put a label on people and be serious. i label people all the time, but i never mean it.

Punk had no political message? What kind of punk are you listening to? Sure, plenty of it was pretty nihilistic, but most of it was very political in nature. The Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Stiff Little Fingers, Minor Threat, the Dead Kennedys, etc. Hell, Jello Biafra even ran for mayor of San Fransisco.

well this was certainly a very interesting thread to read
    all i can say is
    HAHA
and why did the posts of the guy Puddin etc were bagging get deleted?
and i reckon the credibility of a dead genre of music is stupid thing to argue about
    especially to get personal about
    but meh its still amusing
i mean theres bands today i would still classify as 'punk'
but the true meaning of the word has long gone

I would agree that bands that are called punk today are really not punk at all. But You say that it is becuase they are sell outs or posers. I don't agree with that. I think those bands are not punk because they don't sound punk. Selling out is just somthing that punks don't like and therefore bash bands that do it. But even if you sell out, if you sound the same as you were when you were poor you are still making punk music.its just that...no one loves you...[IMG]
