so my handmade stuff isnt selling too well on ebay so thought id give etsy a try, who else is on etsy? any tips you can give me to get started. my etsy site is www.arliaflower.etsy.com
Be patient with Etsy. Right now it is mostly sellers. They are doing a major advertising campaign to draw more buyers in. I would suggest using the forums on etsy for any of your questions (just do a search for your topics) also you can list items in the "item of the day" topics. The chat room is also a good place to get exposure. Make sure that you fill out your location and make a bio for yourself in your account preferences. It seems to be the general consensus that people like to see where thier stuff is coming from. A banner and an avatar is helpful also. If you need help with those, there are a couple of sellers doing them for free in the forum, or you can do a search and buy and banner and avatar package for 5 bucks. If you plan on doing some craft shows in your area, or don't mind putting up fliers the street team might be a good thing to join to help etsy get exposure. http://team.etsy.com/ . Make business cards with you etsy store address on them and give them out to everyone. I also downloaded some etsy fliers from the street team website to attach my cards to and post around town. A good way to get a few feedback is to buy some stuff on there. Well I hope that helps. I got really wordy. lol. Welcome to Etsy. http://libracreations.etsy.com Kate
I joined etsy a little while ago. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=8353 I have only sold one thing, to a former customer of my web site. I don't have much on there yet though. I think advertising is definelty key. I also thought that if I bought a few things I'd make myself a little more well known and get some feedback. Just like with ebay you have to get known and gain trust before people will buy much. But since Etsy is for true crafty artists you are likely to earn a lot more than you would on eBay, the perpetual lawnsale, where everyone just wants a deal.
added you both to my favourites...... got quite alot of views on my items so far, now its just trying to sell them how long did it take you guys to sell something
I sold my first necklace in about a week. But that's because I sent a newsletter with a link to the shop to all my past customers. Thanks for adding me to your faves, I'll add you back. Your necklaces are gorgeous!
arlia do you have a crdit card? cos i tried to join etsy and start a shop but it says you need a credit card and i dont want to get a credit card
thanks froggy! hehehe hiya fleassy. i have a visa card. shame you cant get on it fleassy, youd love it. hows it going anyways darling. iv not seen you about for a while
Arlia: It took about a month to sell some stuff, then nothing until a few weeks ago when I got a custom order. But like I said have patience. Fleassy: I used my Visa Debit card for Etsy, since I don't have a real credit card and have no intentions of getting one. Does your bank do that? Kate
