Her name's Enola (though we like to call her nola and nolie and other variations of her name... lol) and we officially adopted her on March 31st. She is the cutest puppy we have ever seen.... and so well mannered (well for the most part) she got sick yesterday and we were worried she might have Parvo (apparently it's been going around to everything her age recently) but apparently it was just a doggy flu or something... so she's feeling better anyway, here's a pic.
is she a shelter dog? she is very sweet. i wish my dogs were well mannered! one even tries to steal food right out of my mouth.
yes, she's a shelter dog.. and she was outside so she would only go potty outside for a while when she got here...... but today she peed inside for the first time (she did some stuff yesterday when she was sick, so that doesn't count... hehe) but yeah, other than that.. and chewing up a book (she's teething) she's been excellent and calm and really good and beautiful and cuddly... and waking up charles in the middle of the night to walk her... hehe.. *sigh* we love her. i love how she perks up when i say her name and then i say it again and she walks over to me and plops down on her back for me to pet her belly... it's so cute, she does it everywhere.. she'll run towards us outside all superfast and then collapse on her back to let us know to pet her... lol it's so great to have a puppy!
what a sweetie! She sort of looks like a Schipperke... its hard to tell in this pic, but does she have a tail? If its very short or just a stub, I'd say she was mostly Schipperke. either way ... cute little dog!
Congrats and thank you so much for getting a shelter dog. I hope you guys have many happy years together. Millions of animals are killed each year in shelters because of neglectful owners not getting their animals fixed or people thinking it is "cute" to breed their animals. Each bred dog bought is one in the shelter killed. There's really no way around that. All of our animals are rescued. The shelter really is hell for them so if anyone is considering a pet, please don't buy from a pet store or a breeder. The animals really seem to understand you helped them once they are out. And in my experience, their personalities change (for the better). Our cat was withdrawn and depressed in the shelter. Now she is happy, healthy, friendly, and sweet. Our dog was beaten by his previous owners until he ran away. Now he is healthy and has gotten over his fear. He is the happiest dog ever (and he sleeps with us and is completely spoiled). I am so glad you adopted from a shelter. I want to give your dog a hug.
lol there is NO WAY we would ever buy a bred dog... we were actually going for a medium sized adult, so we weren't being very good when we got nola... she's going to be large and we got her as a puppy... i'm sure she had a good chance of being adopted regardless :/ but, we are planning on taking other dogs up there to the obedience classes when they start up to give them better chances of getting adopted. there was another dog we loved, named grimes, who liked to pee everywhere so we didn't take him, but we're gonna take him to the obedience classes. he is so freakin cute, and a bit mischeivous.. i had a time getting him back in the cage when i walked him up there.. lol. anyway! i love dogs so you got me all long winded.... oh and enola's mom was a shelter dog and had (i think) 7 pups up there including enola.. and we will definitely get her fixed and probably have more dogs later, when we have the money and space... maybe even some cats if my fiance can handle it (he's somewhat allergic)
The cats in the shelter when I went did a complete turnaround once I opened their cages to pet them. They were huddled in a corner and then you show interest and they cme to life! I am so in support of shelter rescues. Sorry I am saying so much about them, I just know what a difference it has made in my life, my boyfriend's life, and especially the lives of our babies. I know you'll be a great mom to your new little one
Looks like a Shepherd x perhaps? lovely looking dog, good on you for going to a shelter instead of a pet shop or breeder.
