Here's the last scene from the script (I can post/send you the whole script if you want, but here's the ending for now...):

    110.

A state bus draws up across from the Hardware Barn.

Somberly, DUKE watches as TWO YOUNG MARINES with duffel bags
step off -- chatting like TRUE BROTHERS...

DUKE switches on the ignition. Something rolls off the
    trembling dash... DUKE catches it...

    ONE SINGLE BEAUTIFUL AMYL CAPSULE...

DUKE CRACKS THE AMYL -- INHALES. THE RUSH MAKES HIM GASP --
    TEETH BARED LIKE A MADMAN.

    DUKE
    HOLY SHIT!!!

DUKE GUNS THE ENGINE with a laugh -- leans out -- YELLS AT
    THE MARINES.

    DUKE
    GOD'S MERCY ON YOU SWINE!

DUKE ROARS AWAY. AN AMERICAN FLAG FLIES UP FROM THE DEBRIS
IN THE BACK SEAT, MADLY UNFURLING ITSELF AS IT SNAGS ON THE
CONVERTIBLE-TOP FRAME OF THE TRASHED WHITE WHALE!

    AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

The TWO MARINES look after him CONFUSED.

    EXT. DESERT HIGHWAY

DUKE drives fast -- TEETH GRITTED IN FROZEN ECSTASY!!

DUKE CRANKS UP THE TAPE RECORDER.

    DUKE (V/O)
My heart was filled with joy. I
    felt like a monster reincarnation
of Horatio Alger... a man on the
move... and just sick enough to be
    totally confident.

The WHITE WHALE WIPES THE SCREEN BLACK.

    AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

    END

um no, where the buffalo roam isnt the sequel where the buffalo roam is just a film about hunter in general and about things he did and storys he coverd based on actual events, there are actuly point in the movie that go past the year fear and loathing was set, he was on the campain trail in 1972 fear and loathing is set in 1971 but it isnt a sequal. anyway where the buffalo roam is based on the real hunter, fear and lothing in las vegas is based on a character hunter made up that took parts of his personality, you should watch Fear and Loathing in Gonzovision it will clear some stuff up for you

The chemical compound amyl nitrite (here referring to isoamyl nitrite) is an alkyl nitrite. It has a characteristic penetrating odour, and produces marked effects on the human body when its vapour is inhaled. It acts as a vasodilator (expanding blood vessels and thus lowering blood pressure) and finds applications in medicine in the treatment of heart disease such as angina. Amyl nitrite is also used to treat cyanide poisoning. It induces the formation methemoglobin which binds cyanide into non-toxic cyanomethemoglobin. When used recreationally, doses of it are often called poppers. See the article alkyl nitrites for more information on its recreational use as an inhalant. The effects of amyl nitrite are thought to be due to the action of nitric oxide in the body.

Alright I might catch a lot of flak for this (Might... HA!) but IMO F&L was a glorified drug trip. You could take an existentialist (SP =P) point of view and say that the American Dream was a metaphor for looking into ones self for an answer on what this life holds for an individual (for Duke not a generalization) and the realization that you are what you are. But I think thats a load of crap. The way I see it is more like a binge of desperation. Desperation to hold onto the ideals and lifestyle of a decade past. To call what Duke (Or Thompson if you still cling to that) did in that film a good thing is to look to a junkie on the street and give him the thumbs up. It was a hell of a bender. It was funny, amazing, unbelievable and unique. But to tack on bullshit meaning to it to me is just cheap. There is nothing just, right, or true about going to Vegas on a shitload of drugs, doing a shitload more drugs, failing to report on one story that you were asigned (they didnt really elaborate on the DEA convention) rip off two hotels, corupt and abuse (not to mention dump) a 15 year old girl, terrorizing a diner waitress, getting so strug out that you have no memory of the last 24 hours, then drive into the sunset. Its a real cool idea, and funny as shit to watch, but you forget the other people that Duke affected. Are those events the American Dream in action? I say nay. The problem is that most people who watch that movie only see the comedy and drugs and then put it on a pedestal of awe. They fail to let what they actually did sink in. Now who wants to call me a dumbass and who wants to actually debate me about this ?

its a fiction book and movie maybe your reading to much into it?, but yes i agree people love this movie for all the wrong reasons, but also so what if they didnt fall tradistional morals does that make them wrong or the people around them wrong? just because its not accepted does that make it wrong or what the movie about testing every limite? it isnt about holding on its about letting go, he said the 60's were dead and over and its time people realized it. also how bad were they effected, i dont think anyone went totaly crazy from them, they never phsicaly harmed anyone

Hello? Lucy... the girl? 15 years old, put on LSD and taken advantage of by Dr Gonzo then dropped off at a chappel and left... I dont care who you are if you think thats morally acceptable gimmie your address so I can kick your ass =D
And since when has ripping someone off for 1000's of dollars been ok? Huh? The hotel lost a lot of money on them. Ok granted no one on the low level is going to miss a check because of it but its still stealling from an individual no?
Again my point, the point of reason is not being truly heard. The drugs... Thats fine... I dont care about that. Its just what else they did that bothers me. And again if you remember he had a blast up until that somber epiphany (sp =P) that the 60's were indeed gone. OK and what about in the elevator. Gonzo had that knife to the photographer LaCerta (Def. SP.) Not to mention cruising all over Vegas strung out on all this shit. Like I said
    Selfish
    Glorified
    Binge

PostScript: How can you look at my Sig pic and think I have a moral problem with dope?

yeah and? thats your point of view. its about questioning, they didnt physcaly hurt anyone and DR. Gonzo didnt do anything other then give her drugs which she took knowingly, he had a knife to him but didnt do anything, ive had firends robbed at knife point they arnt mentaly disterbed for life, a casino/hotel was cheated of money OMG someone call the police its a casino in vegas in the 70's the mob probably has 100 times that amount in gold teeth they pulled from old men for winning to many blackjack games. fucked up and moraly questionable why hells yes thats the point but was anyone truly hurt? and slefishness is bad? come on its the human drive for self that keeps us alive.

-Sigh-... "He savagely violated every orfice in her body with his huge uncircumsized member"

You just.... dont get it. I understand you wanted to glorify it... I did it when I was your age. Its something you'll grow out of...
Trust me you'll be sitting there stoned as shit watching it for the millionth time and it will just lose the quirky charm it had and you'll realize how fucked it was. Its still a good movie... just not as AMAZINGLY GODLIKE as you kids are making it out to be
