it's odd how the people who go out of their way to upset/piss off others on the 'net always come up with some shit like this.....almost as if they are trying to give some sick justification to their own actions.....

Just for the record, although the other members of that board do, in fact, think that the idea of an unattended homebirth after c-section is a stupid, unneccesary risk for the poor baby, we do not stand behind helga's particularly troll like assault here.

not that i speak for anyone but myself, but i feel someone needs to say this.

Okay, let me try and understand something here. Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time. Before modern technology, women gave birth in the comfort of their own homes and this was the norm. Now, much of childbirth has become "unnatural", treated more as an ailment instead of a natural part of a childbearing life, women being pressured to medicate instead of trusting their bodies and abilities, and invasive (and sometimes completely unnecessary) procedures are being performed in many hospital settings, which can add to stress for both mother and baby. I fully support a woman's decision to give birth at home when she is considered healthy, low-risk, and with the support of a midwife, and honestly wished that I could have been one of those women, however, I had situations (high risk) which couldn't allow that.

Now, I don't know the original poster's childbirth experiences, I don't know what prompted the cesarean section that she had had previously, but many women can and do have VBACs with success. If she is not considered high risk according to her OB/GYN or midwife and her pregnancy has been uncomplicated, why is it such an issue that she may choose to have her child at home?

Again, I don't know the extent of her situation, and I would hope that at least a certified midwife would be present during the delivery at home, I suppose I'm just curious as to whether this is against homebirthing in general or if it's more involved than that due to previous complications, the reason for the cesarean.

But in the end, it truly is this woman's decision on how she wants to handle her birth. She is the one that has to suffer any complications that may arise, she is the one who has to deal with any unforeseen situations, etc. So ultimately, it's her decision, and that decision will affect her and her child.

    Peace...

If she was having it at home with a midwife, i doubt anyone on those boards would be judging her. there are homebirth moms on that board. she's having an *unattended* homebirth though, trusting that her midwifery knowledge will be enough to be in charge, even while in the middle of birth. and if, gods forbid, there is a complication, she will be relying on only herself to intervene. while being the birthing momma with complications. It worries the hell out of me, to be honest, because if the only remotely trained person in the room is the one bleeding out during a dangerous birth, i can't see who is going to save the baby.

But apparently all the women who told her that maybe she should have someone there to help just in case, are uptight slaves to the medical system.

VBACs ARE more complicated, due to scarring, it wasn't possible for me. but while women HAVE been having births since the dawn of man, many of them were dying. our deaths from childbirth have fallen to such a degree that plenty of women are forgetting that death is a risk of childbirth. i think a natural homebirth is wonderful in low risk cases, but VBACs carry a great deal more risk than a natural birth for a healthy, uncut woman.

Okay now, I see, and yes, I will agree that doing such a thing completely unassisted seems quite dangerous for both the mother and the baby.

Thanks, I was just curious what all the uphevel was about. :)
