there are different reasons for it, none of which have to do with the harm potential; more to do with political and economic reasons

large businesses have been built specifically to enforce legislation, support gov't agencies, and conduct biased research to come up with ambiguous stats and claims that influence mass public opinion regarding illicit substances. It's an old (conservative) scheme that goes back to the narcotics laws in this country, regarding morphine, and marijuana.

my condolences on the passing of your mother, i imagine it's pretty rough.

Sorry to hear that man. I agree, alcohol should be illegal. Too bad it isn't the way our society runs. My cousin died a couple months back from a heroin overdose, so man i feel for you.

the thing i hate is that society can go to teh extent of treating drunk people as becoming more-themselves almost, whereas all other drugs are considered by general society to dissolve who a person is. neither is right, but this sort of thinking adds to the social support for current laws, despite being developed by the laws inteh first place

i HATE how people treat drunks like that - like more sincere people... IMO that's a load of bullshit, i'm an asshole and egotistical when i'm drunk, hence stopping drinking in my case lol. very good point bill.

Oh man, I have no idea. But I really don't think it should be. My entire town has been negatively affected by alcohol. I don't think you could find one person that hasn't lost someone in some way thanks to alcohol. I feel ya... i really don't know how to fix it though... i guess money is the only thing that matters in this country...

peaceful kid man im really sorry to hear that, alcohol is terrible a lot of the time, its become so cool to drink irresponsibly, and how people in the morning just say "oh but i didnt mean it i was drunk" as if its an excuse.
