I think blaming god for getting beat up and not having friends isnt a reason to abandon him. Why blame god for things like that? I mean, I can't relate to what you went through, so no way am I trying to argue, but I think blaming something else for your problems is kind of like a defense mechanism. I wouldn't say god is on the side of people who have friends and normal lives, but I also wouldn't say god abandoned someone who is the opposite of the latter. Maybe it was a test, to prepare you for what you are experiencing now, so you can understand how things can go from good to bad, but under your control. Maybe abandoning god, and fending for yourself is what god wanted you to do all along, and that relying on yourself was actually relying on god as well. I beleive god is part of us all, so we should beleive in ourselves to overcome our obstacles as much as we depend on god to help us. So abandoning god could have actually gotten you closer to him, because your mentality was shifted and focused on yourself.

Just my 2 cents, like I said, I can't really relate to your situation. Also, I'm under the influence of a a concoction of things and had an epiphony writing this, I don't even know if it makes sense or if i spelled tons of shit wrong. How did I write this. Ok I'm done. I cant even remember what this thread is about.

If, big if, the Christian god--the god that meats out infinite punishment for not groveling at his feet and worshiping him--truly exists, then he's not worthy of worship for he is not a superior being but merely a more powerful one.

That's wrong. I don't blame god for what happened -- I was a Christian, and I read the Bible, and the Bible said that sin is what caused it.

I don't blame God for anything. But I damn well don't believe he exists after I begged him for help for YEARS and things only progressively got worse. And I damn well don't believe in the Bible either, because just about everything it says I have found to be false.

I'm not blaming God for my problems, I'm blaming him for not helping me through the tough times.

Remember that bullshit story where God and some guy are walking along the beach, and his life's memories are on there, and some parts there is only one set of footprints, during the toughest times of his life, and he says, "God, why weren't you with me during these tough times?" and God says, "I did not leave you, it was during those times that I carried you."

That is complete bullshit. God never carried me or helped me or even sent me a fucking sign to cheer up. It's a made up fucking story, and if God does exist, he damn well doesn't do anything it says in the Bible.

Well, now you can say that. God DID abandon me (in a sense -- since there is no God, there isn't anything to abandon me). And I didn't abandon him until years later when I realized that it was all fake and did something to turn my life around.

I don't think so. Things haven't gone from good to bad since I stopped believing.

The only thing that could make "relying on myself" equal to "relying on God" is if I was god.

    Wait a second ...

Now, when I said above that I would sooner swear my undying eternal allegience to Lucifer, I don't think that can be interpreted as "actually gotten you closer to [God]," even if somehow it was planned out for me to abandon him.

And if it was planned out, how could I abandon him? Clearly some abandoning happened, but it was not ME who abandoned him, if it was planned out. I had no say in the matter.

LOL it had a few good points, don't worry. =) Hahaha ...

... what are you talking about now? This isn't a video game, I wasn't resurrected or respawned after losing a battle.

    (laughs)

Or else you just became a faggot, one or the other at least you came out different.

Depends on what part of the bible you consider to be absolutely true. There are the depressed musings of Solomon in Ecclesiastes: "Meaningless, Meaningless, everything is meaningless!"

The bible has many examples of men's thoughts on life. Not all of them are true (obviously, everything is not meaningless). The ignorant thoughts (such as everything is meaningless) are recorded in the bible for many reasons, one of which is to show us that we can think incorrect thoughts. The other souls on life's journey go through "growing pains" that are similar to our own (which is why Solomon's "depression" is shown to the world in Ecclesiastes), as they struggle to know God and their self.

Well my belief is we are all god, we are all one, so inside of us is all a little piece of god, so yea, we are god, just not to full capacity. We are gods trapped in a decaying mammal carcass, and our reliance on god, our ego, is what chains us down. So yea, abandoning god was a good thing, but I don't think denying he exists should be warranted. I mean, yea he wasn't there for you, but it made you stronger right? I don't think people should do anything in life depending on god, because it's not you making progress, it's god doing all the work.

Take for example baseball and steroids. Sure, you can hit farther homeruns because your stronger, but what about the guy who worked hard in the gym to hit just as many. The man who didn't take steroids (you) would have more confidence and and appreciation for the hard work, then the man who juiced up all the time (depending on god). But of course, god can't be compared to steroids, because getting god's help isn't as easy as getting steroids. My main point is just because god doesn't help with you everything doesn't mean god's not there. Maybe the story of the footprints should be changed to the guy is walking alone because god wanted to see if he could do it for himself, making him a better man. That's at least how I see it. I don't think god should play a particular role in anyone's life other than the fact that we have the ability to mold our futures ourself, and that god should just be appreciated for giving us that oppurtunity. If you live a good moral life, and don't react negatively when something bad happens, then that is proving how good of a person you really are even though you had to endure such hardship.

Keep in mind the quote in my sig, I think you can relate Hikaru. Oh and don't mind nimrod, his favorite movie is Brokeback Mountain.

You do have a point, and this is why I am a fan of Nietzsche philosophy -- living with no regrets, because if things hadn't happened exactly as they did, I would not be where I am today.

And yet -- it was not the situation that caused me to become stronger -- you only become stronger on your own merit. Situations can incite that decision, and bring it out, but it all comes down to your own will.

But surely, if God is going to be there to wish pain on Adam and Eve simply because they ate an apple, and if God is there to strip the legs off a serpent for tempting them to eat the apple ... if the Father is there, for the sake of all of his children ... surely, he would help with the toughest times.

On my beach, there aren't any footprints, only a drag trail with elbowmarks where a body was slowly pulled along by itself.

Granted that it's a good point. But it draws out one major flaw ... the lives of others are not God's pawns! We are not his toys for him to "see if we can do it for ourselves" at the expense of each of us.

It's like that movie Toy Story, where all the toys get pissed the fuck off at Sid, and rise up and scare the living daylights out of him. And for all we know, maybe Lucifer is Woody. Maybe he's the crusader who puts up with God's crap until he decides he's had enough and gathers those angels which are fed up too, and rebels ...

And as far as the who is the happier man quote goes ... it'd be nice to have that choice to stay on the shore sometimes, rather than get pushed into such a storm and come out the other side torn to shreds but still barely alive. =\

Otherwise, I agree with what you're saying.

Dude I was complementing your metaphorical christ on the cross suffering, sacrifice, and resurrection. Then you attack me with that stupid video game quote trying to be a big funny tough guy. Then I strike back and you "involve the moderators"! Thats like when my little dumb beagle attacked a german shephard across the street, and then just ran away with its tail between its legs once it found out the Shepard would've owned it. It did the same with a coyote twice as well. I was saying that you've had an experience, not so much as Jimi Hendrix would describe it, but you fullfilled the death/resurrection theme. As for the faggot comment, that was simply small humor to indicate, that even though you denied the Christian god you found a higher power bringing you to mental and spiritual success. And yes you were respawned, or else you would've let your dad kill you, or someone else kill you literally or spiritually and you would've comitted suicide or raped a girl or something once you snapped. So I think you should balls up and not say any more of those moderator comments, considering I was complementing you.

That is exactly what I said dude. The actions of your father in the situation was the catalyst that drove you to experience this death/rebirth. Which is a great topic again for today being Easter. Yet when I compare this to a "Christian"(well call it that for now not to get into the shitmess easter has become and all of the influences in Xianity.) concept, you have to reverse it and perverse it. Yet when you apply it to a philosophy you can relate with it. Its straight Im just saying recognize the cosmic radiance that is the ATEN! Let go of your grudge, with the Enlil worship archetype thats imbedded in all of the monotheisms, and realize what it is. Then you can respect what you've gone through even more.

Well it must have been quite a "compliment," because your attitude pissed me off with it.

Not to mention all that "God loves you, Jesus loves you!" crap. Do you think I'd take that as a compliment when I'm posting about how both God and Jesus are assholes if they even exist/ed at all?

And as far as the video game thing goes, I was just thinking "what the heck is this guy talking about?" I'm sure you already understood that I wasn't joking though, considering that I said, "what are you talking about now?" What I went through is nothing similar to that whole metaphorical Christ thing. Especially because, toward the end of it, I didn't die, I wrecked this kid's face up. I'm not particularly proud of it, and it's not like I'm trying to play the "big funny tough guy" role, the kid was pretty small, only as big as I am.

I didn't involve the moderators, I was asking you if you were going to be a prick (for whatever reason) and make me?

Believe me man. I'm no tattletale -- there's no glory in it and it's not like I'm trying to win some victory over you. But if you're going to be an asshole about it, every forumgoer has a duty to uphold the policies of the forums.

I think it's more like, your beagle started barking at a german shepherd, so it barked back, and then the beagle bit the shepherd so the it asked the beagle if it was going to have to get unnecessarily rough or if the beagle was going to stop being a prick.

Well call people faggots on other forums, it's not appropriate here. This is the HIP forums. You're supposed to be fucking civil about shit. I've never heard someone call someone else a faggot out of "small humour". Or "bitch boy". Or "fagget fuck." So as far as I care, you can go get banned and take your snide remarks elsewhere.

Beyond that, I haven't found any higher power bringing me to any sort of success, so I haven't even got the slightest clue what your point is ...

With compliments like those, who needs criticism?

Your "compliment" combined sarcasm and salt (the whole "God loves you! Jesus loves you!" thing). I dare say I'd never interpret that as a compliment.

Whether or not you or I think it's symbolic of it, doesn't warrant your copping a shitty attitude.

Maybe you think it's symbolic. But generally when people think it's symbolic, and mention it, they don't do it sarcastically.

Whats generally? I presented with sarcastic humor, at least I thought. I did egg you on because your so bent over God and Jesus, both of which I don't really recognize myself, and you started it with the video game crap. You fullfilled Jesus dying on the cross and being resurrected thats all I pointed out. It was just in your own little situation within your paradigm. You were down to a very low point, low enough to change your religious beleifs, and you came up from it. Thats all theres no arguing that. I only said the GOD LOVES YOU! Well because HE DOES! According to the Christians, even if you turn your back on god you cna be forgiven lol.
