hey guys and gals i was doing my rounds like usual when i came accross this link which backs up why if we are truely caring people we would want to go veg. Bare in mind that this is only the final part of a long and often torturous process for an animal, that begins at birth. i would like to say in advance that i feel those of you of a weaker disposition should look away now, its not a pretty sight http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?video=agri_short&Player=wm&speed=_med peace and love
When i saw that video it scared the shit out of me I just hope others learn from it too peace and love
if it takes in your face evidence, where is your innate compassion? Where is the feeling that we are more advanced than what evolved before, and we should start acting like it? Where's the esthetic that corpses are not what we prefer to consume? where's listening to the voice that says: 'hey a^%^$, your veins are clogging from saturated animal fat, think you might want to lay off before you are laid out? We had herbavores for a long time before PETA and video. Whay are we so dependent on gore and shock? Why can't we simply do what's right?
I've been considering going vegetarian for a while now, and oh god, I just watched that video and it made me want to vomit and cry at the same time...
the PETA videos were the catalyst for my going veg. i have always been a compassionate person and have been rescuing animals since i was just a child but as i was raised a meat eater, even tho i loved pigs and chickens and regrarded all animals as equals, i just never made the connection really, it wasnt something i thought about. i never knew any veggies and hardley ever heard about veg*ism ever. when i started using to peta to network for protests a few years ago that is when i came across the videos and it just hit me like a ton a bricks. i felt awful for never thinking about the subject in depth before but when we are raised with certain things from birth they become just a part of everyday life we dont usually question untill we are older and become more mature and seperate from our parents values and principles. i went veg and never had any doubts that i was doing the right thing and that i should have done it a long tiem ago. i wish someone would have thought to educate ME when i was younger or atleast push the subject into my face a little and raise a few questions, and i know for a fact had that been done i would have gone veg then. i REALLY have alot of respect for the teens and youngsters on this board who have thought about it and are making a difference because when i was a teenager i just didnt think about anything but partying with my friends.
Drummin the reality of the situation is that we all have our daily lives to live.... and as a result we are often oblivious to the goings on in the world. As a result of not being born all knowing, these videos could possibley provide the information that tells us whats acceptable and whats not. Sure we have been told about it so many times before, and all to no effect, but remember: "A picture is worth a thousand words". Peace and Love
I did not watch the video. I already saw the :kosher" meat video and a seal video earlier this week. You can say "X amount of chickens are kept in Y amount of space" or "animals have (list of abuses) performed on them" and for many people it won't sink it. Some people have to see it to believe it. Then they turn it off because it makes them uncomfortable. People like to ignore what makes them uncomfortable and pretend it doesn't happen. It's pretty damn hard to argue with a video though.
i didn't watch the video because it would ruin my day. I already know how bad animals are treated. it's great that you're spreading the word tho. I couldn't touch meat because of this.
Wow. That video was disturbing to say the least. I've been pondering this for a while now, and it just may be time to stop eating the stuff. I had been off of beef for over a year, til one night, I had some fast food, and...let's just say it didn't agree with me at all. Everyone with a brain knows that meat, at least the way it's processed here in America is so full of poisons and additives and hormones that it's cancerous, and the processing plants are disease-ridden, filthy places. Now I figure it's time to take the next step. I hope to become meat free soon. All I got left is some turkey burgers, chicken breasts, and perch fillets in the freezer. When thy're gone, I think I'll just stop.
right on cozmo. wild caught is better than a factory farm by far, but who knows what's in the wild these days? Chronic Wasting/ TSE (deer/elk form of BSE), mecury in water getting in fish, parasites... why bother?
I just fixed myself the tastiest stir fry for lunch...am I correct in saying that fresh or frozen is better for you than canned?
because unfortunately some people have been mislead into thinking that "oh, they dont feel anything when they die, its ok to eat meat" people in this day are brainwashed to think conveniently
Cozmo: yes, canned/tinned is a last resort because of vitamin oxidation. But tinned is better than none! ( I happen to prefer a local cannery's beans to my own.) Lucy: if all we do to say this is wrong is show graphic video, we are losing that innate sense of harm i swrong (ethical vegetarian/ veganism rests on extending that beyond our species) Look at how such violence is part of our culture: in the hyper violence movie genre created (mostly) by Quentin Tarratino. To depend on the graphic is a losing proposition as we become immune. Since we are a visual culture more so than literate these days, perhaps the graphic description could cut deeper. (For more on visual/literate dichotomy and the power than can be grabbed at the crux of the changes, see The Alphabet and the Goddess by Leonard Shlain. the basic theory is that when a culture chages from visual/ storytelling to a literate alphabet culture..and back... the acendent communication will have higher impact. Shlain suggests that Hitler, may his name and memory be erased, rose to such power based on radio, which is visua/storyteller communication, because Germany was SO literate and alphabet oriented. Bringing the storyteller back was able to hit deeply in a consciousness oriented to the printed word.)
*Crawls up in a corner and crys* This shit is disgusting, morbid, mean, cruely, diabolical, grotesque and a bazillion other words I can't come up with now because my mind is blocked by the picture of body parts hanging from a limping cow's throat. Why or why do people have to kill this way? Why or why must we kill at all? It would make more sence to put the pitiful things to sleep before they watched them writhe on the floor in pain and fear. It hurts to know the world is so wretched. I've been working on not eating meet for the past 2 or 3 days, and I have to say, after that, I would wrater starve myself, it's not fair and it's unholy... my goddess it's unholy!
i see what you mean, i never thought of it that way. it seems to me that peta, though their message is good, the violent way they spread it is bad. another thing i thought of, althogh what these workers are doing is cruel and sadistic to these noble beasts, we shouldn't hate them. nobody has said anything violent about them yet, but in case anybody is thinking it, bear in mind that we can disagree, SEVERELY dissagree, but we should't hate. love thy enemys, the bible says.
Interesting video, certainly not how they do it in portugal but more efficient than Portugal. I stopped eating red meat as its very high in saturated fat. I still eat chicken and fish and will never stop that. My goal one day is to raise my own chickens as I am aware of the chicken farming methods in place here in north america. My grandparents used to have a cow, chickens a goat all that good stuff in portugal. I understand peoples dislike with the chicken/meat production here in North America but how do you guys feel about those two grow their own chickens/meat in more natural conditions.
I still think killing animals is wrong. To me, it's not the principal of where the meat comes from, it's the fact that it was once a living breathing loving creature.
