i have a couple of lightnin hopkins albums, some serious blues. He did gigs in Frisco in the late 60s with some great bands too. Nice voice and always a unique style of play.

But i wish someone would have tuned his guitar for him!

those guys learned to play themselves
    they learned to tune themselves

Its kind of pure when you look at it that way

Its not that I dont see its uses, and appreciate the use of dischordant sounds.

But... it seems like Lightnin could have gotten better at it over time, its not like he lived in the woods for fourty years and didnt hear a guitar tuned well. I know Ive heard him play songs others had written, so I know he has heard it in tune.

I just think that I would appreciate hearing his tunes a little more if he were tuned better. Jetplane Blues is a good example of a good song that might be a great song if the guitar were tuned up for him!
