Anyone? After much anxiety, searching, deciding, redeciding, etc etc the results are in, the uhaul is booked, transcripts have been sent and we're due to arrive by Haloween in either Eureka or Arcata (whichever an abode with a dishwasher can be found in at the time). If there are any parents out there that understand the homeschool scene or even the normal school scene and might have some advice, have an apartment manager as their best friend , or just wanna hang out sometime...... talk to us! My munchkins are 7 and 1 and would love to meet new friends. We're a little crunchy and mostly average ourselves, but love diversity in our lives , so cross my heart that if you wear a suit or dreadies (or both) we'll luv ya just the same. Peas n Loaf
I'm in Mendocino County, the county just south of Humboldt. I also fantasize about living in Arcata or Eureka. I love it so much up there. Anyway, I'm telling you this because I come up there often. My cousin up there is the one expecting twins that I just mentioned in another thread. So, I wish I could say I live up there and I have an apartment for you, but if you want to get in touch just in case, or if you think you might want to hook up one of these times when I come up there, private message me. I am excited for you. I think all co-ops should model themselves after Arcata's! It's so gorgeous there! When I take my kids to the redwood park they say they expect to see dinosaurs wandering around. I don't know how familiar you are with the area, but even if you just want ideas about cool stuff to do there I have ideas. I'm happy for you! P.S. My cousin was suggesting that I move up there to help her when the twins are born. Maybe I will move up there! YAY!
oooohhhhh humbolt . . . i miss you soooo much i was living in ol rancho. small neck of the woods closeset town was 40 miles away, in garberville. ooooohhhh humbolt i miss you sooo much. the rock musem off the highway was always a stop your kids will love it
I spent a week or three there about oh......ten years ago. Loved the redwoods park...spent most of the time getting lost among the trees. I was looking at something in the guidebook that came with my nifty "how to get from point A to point B before the kids tear apart the uhaul" direction book and it said that Eureka only gets to 60 degrees in the summer????? Tell me they're wrong. I know they're wrong. They're wrong, right? I'm going to have to throw out about 80% of my wardrobe if it's true. We'll be seein ya
eureka and arcaida definatly get hotter than that, expecally if you like to get out and hike around!!!!! i had trouble finding places to cool down. dont belive everything you hear, specialy that!! youll have so much fun. great place to bring the kids up. whatch out for the junkies.
We spent 12 years in Humboldt, mostly in the sourthern part around Garberville. And yes, it is true that Eureka and Arcata are quite cool during the summer. Being right on the coast, the inland heat pulls moisture over the area making for overcast, foggy and cool weather. If you drive south on 101, somewhere between College of the Redwoods and Redcrest you will typically leave the coastal cool and enter the heat.
i was always sweating my ass off up there. even hiking through the redwoods, i dont man. think its its pretty warm depends on where your from i guess
When the AC died in the car in mid-July I did swear I was going to move as far north as I could get without it snowing, lol...maybe I got my wish. I've lived in just about every climate that the US has to offer, but if it turns out to be a pain I'll just move another 30 miles or whatever down the road...aint no big. I just never imagined Arcata being so cold when Eugene was so hot in the summer and it's like, what, 200 miles furthur north? I'm already looking at the stores for sweaters and mittens and SOCKS! Lol..my current climate has left me nearly sockless 'cause you only need them about a month or 2 out of the year. Lord is it gonna be a fight getting the kids to wear 'em. I've gotta find out what Humboldt has to offer for home school programs and fast... I just realized that I'm sitting here buying books for a year long curriculum and Cali probably wont even approve them..AGH I'm off to search... peas
