I love being barefoot or wearing sandals and such, but I am so embarassed to do so because I have bunions. I try to convince myself all the time that it's ok and no one cares that I have them, but I always end up being embarassed, because most people I know don't have bunions.
Honestly, people will just be shocked at the fact you aren't wearing shoes...they won't even notice your bunions. My bf has bunions and we love to go barefoot!
I totally agree with Mike- don't feel embarrassed (though I know that sometimes it's hard not to), enjoy being barefoot!
Cool! Another barefooter with foot problems! I also have a lot of foot problems, which actually gives me a "built in reason" for barefooting. In my case, my tendons are too short, so my toes tend to "pull back" into a scrunch, and my arch and instep are extemely high. And to top it off, my feet are extremely small in size and for my height and gender (my feet and hands really are almost the same size!). So, as a result, shoes that are big enough to accommodate my high arch and instep tend to fit me very poorly for lenght and width. I don't know how many times I ended up carrying around my size 3 sneakers because I got tired of fighting with them and stepping out of them every time. But hey! I've learned to love my tiny, messed-up feet...quirks and all. It gives me a certain uniqueness I've always celebrated. Ciao for now!
Heh! You mentioned bunions, and that made me look it up and I figured out that is what I have ony my toes! I have wandered that for a while. But yeah man, I have bunions (I can now see) as well as no arch, and my feet are really large. I am about 5'7" or so and I wear size 13 (american size) and my feet are also abnormally wide and thick. This sort of gives me a hobbit-like appearance of my proportion. But that doesn't stop me. People will be shocked that you are barefoot, not how your feet look (except how dirty they are). I used to worry about my bunions too. But no one has ever said anything about them, and I don't worry about it anymore.
Feet are beautiful! Yours are too! At 16 your bunions can't be too bad. Don't let that keep you from going barefoot. Try getting a pedicure. That will make you feel better about your feet and people will admire your pretty toe nails. Some foot jewelry can also help.
Are you kidding? Feet are awesome man! You must be one of those feet hating people... I don't know why people are so weird about feet. The nastiest thing for them is to put them in shoes where they sweat and deform and grow bacteria. Now THAT is pretty gross... I think being barefoot is a very natural and an atractive thing.
Very well said, rayne_lyric. You are absolutely right. But feet are no more beautiful or less beautiful than any other part of the human body, imo. Our bodies are perfectly formed, and whether you believe we were made in the image of God, or whether you believe we are the product of nature and natural design, there is no way that our feet were designed to need any help from some kind of footwear or be hidden away from public sight. I think because of the fact that "civilized" society over the years has made shoes almost a "requirement" to function, and the feet have been hidden away so much from public view, that some people unfortunately have begun to think of bare feet in almost the same way as genitals - at best not appropriate to see in public, at worst disgusting and obscene. This latter view has sometimes lead to an obsessive sexualizing of bare feet, known as a foot fetish. I'm not implying that there's anything wrong with being turned on by bare feet at all, but I really don't think foot fetishes exist in societies where bare feet are common and people generally never wear shoes. And those places still exist in the world today, though they are diminishing.
Good point about the fetish thing. in topless tribes like some in africa, women's breats aren't in any way viewed as sexual or a turn on or anything. It is actually how large their lip is disced out. In our society we hide them and they are then erotic to a lot of people.
Mine are small for a 6'1" guy, too. But I love it that way. Only thing I sometimes wish was different is that my toes are short. Sometimes wish they were a wee bit longer. But I do like my small size. I'm used to it, and I can't imagine I'm ugly that way. But who knows---
I get teased, in a friendly way, not a hurtful way, about having big feet. I seriously have hobbit-like proportions man.
