Roach and Wheatgerm were friends of mine. Roach (real name is *****, Riversong, not Josh) moved to the Haight from Anaheim. He met Wheatgerm there and they became inseparable friends. When I spent time in the Haight, I'd crash at their place. Sometime in 1968 or 69 they hooked up with another guy named Eddie and all three of them got into shooting reds (Seconol)... It got ugly. The story I heard was that one night Eddie OD'd on reds and went unconscious. They thought, in their seriously muddled condition, that speed would bring him around. While Eddie was unconscious, they shot him up with some meth. Apparently that killed Eddie. Roach and Wheatgerm didn't know he was dead.. took him to a hospital. The hospital called the police. That's the last I heard of either of them. If anybody knows whether either of them are dead or alive, I'd love to hear. Knowing their "on the edge" lifestyle, I wouldn't be surprised to learn they're no longer with us. The photo you posted, DrJ, isn't Roach. It might be Wheatgerm, but I can't remember. Roach was much shorter, long dark hair. Peace
I lived in Anahiem for a long time growing up, I left for The Haight when I was 16, thumbing a ride up 101. It was quite an adventure I must say. I sure did learn a lot about life, people and 'other' ways of living and being real. It was certainly a time of changes. Haight/Ashbury was Utopia. There was so much freedom, no rules really, just be cool and don't start no shit! But of course where there is good energy there is bad. I saw a lot of bad in the 11 yrs I was there, but some how I managed to come out in one peice with most of my brain cells. How that happened I only can only call Divine Intervention bc I surely used more drugs then the average teenager. But it wasn't all drugs, there were so many wonderful adventures and lessons along the way. So much love and unity back then. People really seemed to care about each other and the planet we reside on. Yes, a time of change it was. I don't know if it happened to us or we happen to it, but man o man it was a trip. Off to work I go.. Hi Ho Hi Ho.. Be sweet sh
Dear Bungo Thanks a lot for your post. I too have not been on here for quite some time. That is, even though I started it. I am very sorry I don't think we met in the Haight. But who knows, maybe we will. I am going to get a place here in Wyoming where people are welcome to come. Best Regards, Roger
Idaho Jones.. I edited your post, sorry, but you just fronted off your 'friend' to a murder rap using his real name. I should have caught this eariler. Carefull what you expose in here. Big Brother is everywhere. Brightest Blessings sh
I wake up hung-over and read this shit. What and who to which are you referring? Murderers should be ratted out. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? Fuck "Big Brother". I make him clean my cat's litter box and weed my garden.
O.K.-- I went back over his posts. What makes you feel "Big Brother" even gives a fuck what drug-swilling hippies did 40 years ago?
good grief thudly, if some one were looking would you want your name atatched to it. I am so sorry for giving a fuck, really!! not a moments peace. sh maybe a longer 'vacatioin' is needed..
My fingerprints are already registered with the feds, the state and God-knows-who-else. I guess I'm not wanted presently, 'cause here I am! I was arrested many times, but convicted rarely--DUI 33 years ago. Now, I simply stay home with my cats.
To interject here for a moment. I'm the moderater of this forum. I am not drunk, whacked out on drugs or otherwise incapacitated. I can read and comprehend what I read. I may have only gone to the 8th grade but I did further my education in other areas that interested me. I hold 5 certificates in alternitive healing and I'm nobodys fool. Why would you think that the forums would be unsurvailed, when there are cameras on every street corner, even in the tiniest of towns. They have mechanisums that can see through the friggin walls, and other's that can hear every word you speak. Out of 1/4 of a million people that come in here, none of them are narks/informers!?! I mean if you want to incrimidate yourself, fine, by all means, but to incrimidate someone else is perhaps another story. A tale from the past could interfere with someones future. Ya know what I mean!! Well that's all I have to say about that. Brightest Blessings sh
Something I always say...Expect the BEST and prepare for the WORST. I too have things in my past am not proud of....while I don't regret anything, except maybe not appreciating that my kids would grow up WAY TOO FAST, I don't put certain things OUT THERE. I have had things I said in innocence and maybe ignorance come back and bite me square in the ass. So probably the best thing is to keep others names unto them...and let them decide if they want to have their real name in the "papers"... As far as the THUD goes....hell ,we ALL know his name....and some of us even know his number....
The tales we could tell, the things we saw and did. We were in the midst of a changing time. It was like a fairy tale looking back, some good, some bad. But all in all a time that will stay forever embedded in my heart, mind and body. I talk to kids these days about The Haight and they never heard of it. They've heard the music but not The Place. I thought it strange. Most of us grew from our experiences and settled down with faimlies and homes. We found other places to be and grew from them also.. For us things haven't changed much, still the same ole trees in the yard and the same ole garden to plant. It's like time stands still here, except for the trailers poping up everywhere and the cameras on the red lights things have stayed pretty much the same. We have now moved into our parents slot and our children into ours, funny how life renews itself. Our gradbabies are going to be like we were. It always seems to skip a generation.
That's what I meant by seeing into the house Gate.. Man.. And just think about all thoes gadgets on TV. They all use to be Top Secret, now they are an everyday occurence, I dread to think of what they have beyond that, that is Top Secret now.. I know the inventor of the listening devise did not mean for it to be used against us for just smoken it'.. I know this bc the inventor was my Father. He worked for the space program, he was working on the Minute Man when he made it in our garage in Anahiem. When he showed us how it worked ( I was 9 I think) my Mother told him to distroy it bc we could hear what the people were saying next door. She thought it was evil, and I suppose she was right, as things turned out. Daddy was working on Satilites,Computers and Comunications. When comunication when down on Appolo NASA sent a helicopter to get my Father in the middle of the night to fix it. After returnning to Earth the Astronauts sent him a letter of graditude, they all signed it along with the President ( nixon). Daddy was cool though he wanted what we all did, to get back to the land. To live freely and love one another. He would have made a awesome Guru. He was beyond his time. Brightest Blessings Y'all sh
Surprising how close those helicopters have come and missed everything.Perhaps they're just not interested in small timers around here, perhaps i'm just lucky,or perhaps they aren't as advanced as they claim.Anyhoots, doing it legally now as far as the states concerned. If the feds don't like it they can trace me down through the paperwork involved, but they;ve yet to do that to anybody. Those listening devices are pretty interesting. They work well enough to be scary. My dad was a conservationest and a soil scientist. The number of job offers he had from arab governments was unreal.I could have easily grown up in Pakistan or Iran.No telling where that journey could have ended.i might of ended up on that plane looking for my 17 virgins.i'd never find them in this country. All in all i guess it's better to worry about a few damn helicoopters. It's just a good thing i don't have a f'n gun.Pass the power...top of the morning to ya...peace
I thought it was 16 vestile virgins, whatever, ya'd have to get mighty young ones cuz there start earily 'round here.. hahahahaahah.. good luck finding them gate... hahahahahaa.. hummm.. on second thought Gate, do ya think your up to that... hahahaahha.. what would you do wif all them virgins.. most men can barely handle one, let alone 16 or 17... hahhahaaa maybe if you were 18 you might can go one round.. hahahahaaahaaaaa.. Gatey's Harem... hahahaahaaa.. where ya gonna find a Eunich to watch them... Bobbit is out he got his sewed back on... HAHAHAAaahahaa.. ohh myyy..
Funny story- I was born in 57 so I could only observe the hey day of the 60's from the porthole of the media under my parents roof. I read about the scene in San Francisco and dreamed of running away to join in on the freedom. When I was 19 I moved to LA, but the true hippie days were on their way out. Disco was hot and punk and "new wave" was on the rise. I think it was in '79 I drove up to San Fransico, knowing full well that the vibe I was hoping to be there was long gone, which it was. I stopped and stood stoned at Haight and Ashbury, and looked around, trying to imagine what it was like "in the day". Suddenly, from a second floor window across from me a fat man shouted out at me, - "what are you looking for? All the hippies are gone! They're all dead, or in jail or faded away,- or they cut their hair turned republican! There's nothing to see here young man, you missed it!" Fortunately, in the latter part of the 80's I dated a girl for about 4 years who had the hook up with The Grateful Dead. Back stage passes at all the shows. Got a taste of the times during that brief revival of the spirit. Got to meet Jerry and a lot of other famous and non-famous fabulous people. Now those days are history, but I'm "grateful" for the memories.
