are there any Psy-trance djs here im one im 18 and from Liverpool, Uk if any of you are in Uk you should come check out the nights we put on, also can anyone give me and help on what sort of hardware/software i should use for produceing my own cheers
if you are serious the two leading programs would be Reason and Ableton Live!. but fruity loops is really fun to mess around with, and if you get some vst plugins you will be good to go. check out the native software instruments, those are the most popular right now.
yep, either a new version of Reason will do the trick or Logic Pro is also very good with lots of freedom and great for learning production methods etc.
As far as sequencing is concerned there are only two programs worth anything IMHO and thats Cubase and Logic.....(i think logic is compatable with VST's but not sure.) However if your new to sequencing and composing digitally i would start with reason and a good midi controller M-Audio make some high quality but low budget ones. Reasons great for new users because it helps you understand the physicality of synths and the way they produce the sounds they do.....but also because automation (controlling the digital knobs) is very simple and you can expiment more at first. Fruity loops is a great loop player and has some very useful tools like its vocoder........umm and some really fun ones like the scratcher but although the sound is more organic and squidgy than reason on the whole its a bit clumsy. Abelton Live ive never quite learned how to use but its what psy acts like eskimo and infected mushroom use im sure its great but i have it and its only been running twice. I have asked around alot of psy producers and they recomended alot of software but there where a few names that kept creeping up the one that stuck in my mind was. Absynth VST by http://www.native-instruments.com/ this VST is one of the best i have found esppecially the pads you can create mmmmmmmmmmm sexy sounds. also native Istruments make software for making your own digi synths incase you cant find a VST that suits your music Stienberg Cubases vb-1 bass VST - is used alot for clean bass sounds Reasons Malstrom - has a 303 sound on it i normally mix it with a acid base and mess around to get the desire tone. http://www.psynews.org/ - forums has lots of information for psy production also the best resource for VST http://www.kvraudio.com/ anyway sorry about the lecture hope you find something useful in that mess of information im just a bit tierd :-D and cofeed up Peace & Hugs Brian
I do a bit of bedroom djing, nothing serious, its great fun.... As far as writing psy, Reason is good to start on, to get the idea of what a synth actually does but as far as producing with Reason, I would never do that. Cubase is a much better sequencer and the VST plugins you can get nowadays, some are so phat its just like having the hardware synth. Logic is also good, but now they are only making new versions for Mac, so yeah..... For plugins, Native Instruments has made many that are worth checking out, such as the FM7 and Pro 53. There are lots and lots of plugins that are basically a software version of the hardware synth..... Peace
