I don't know how many of you watched 20/20 last night, but John Stossel(sp?) did a "Give me a Break" segment on the end of the tradition of Lady's Night in many bars. For those of you who don't know, many bars have a Lady's Night; although it differs from bar to bar basically the women will get free drinks, or drinks for half the price or something like that. This was implemented as a way to attract more women customers, since the number of women customers is normally lower than the number of men, as well as a way to bring in more money in general. However, lawyers have taken notice, and a few bars are being sued for this tradition. The lawyers argue that this is gender discrimination. In the segment John Stossel went to a few of the bars being sued, and asked, on lady's night, how many felt. The women in the bars said that there is usually a lot more men in the bars and it was a good way to attract more women, and the men seem to like it. The men in the bars said they didn't mind it because they liked the greater number of women in the bars. He interviewed one or two other people who said it was gender discrimination and should stop. What are your opinions on the matter? Namaste, Diana P.S. John Stossel's opinion was (I am paraphrasing), "If it brings in more money, and the women like it, and the men like it, what's the problem? Give me a break!"
Techniclly yes it is gender discrimination but no one gives a damn save for a few people craving the attention they were denied as children. Much works the same on the "male oppression" side too dont forget. Hell lets take it further. People under 18 are charge 12-15 at clubs, 18 is charge 10 and 21+ is only charged 8. This is age discrimination! Lets sue! Come on... Lets be realistic here.
I think the men should be in the bars and their women should wait in the car for them. That would be the proper thing to do.
