... the kids that lived next door when I was little, got it every year, until their mother stopped giving them antibiotics. then they got real sick for a while, but never had it again.......
Do you mind if I ask you what symptoms you have? You can go here to get a list of all the states and their exemption info.: http://www.vaclib.org/exemption.htm
My DH and I have decided not to vax our daughter (8 weeks old). When we asked the ped for information on the vaccinations, she gave us a book from the American Academy of Pediatrics and a ton of leaflets from drug companies. If I want unbiased information about immunizations, I am definitely not going to get it from the drug companies that manufacture them! We decided to do our own research and talk to others who refused vaxes for their kids. http://909shot.com/ and the Center for Desease Control website have really cleared things up for us. DH even wrote about the situation on his blog-http://disquieter.livejournal.com/.... I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was around 16, after years of constant pain, and I think it may have had something to do with the vaxes I recieved when I was a child. I would much rather have my daughter get the mumps or something treatable than fibromyalgia which has no known cure.
Thanks for those sites Stormyy! I'm expecting a baby soon, and need all the info I can get surrounding vaccines to make sure I make good decisions for this baby...

I am allergic to everything, I kid you not. Every single allergen or food I have ever been tested for, I reacted to. I have immune system dysfunction, endometriosis, sensory defensiveness, short attention span, hyperactivity, probably autism. I'm sick all the time. I have IBS, chronic pain intestinally and in the joints of my legs. I cannot eat any gluten or sugar, ever, or I get even worse than my "normal" I have to eat food I'm allergic to, because I'd starve otherwise, and that gives me all sorts of other problems. I am highly sensitive to many household chemicals, to the point of getting very very ill from the slightest exposure. I get migraines, too. My hormones are all out of whack.... and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It would depress me to no end to list everything wrong with me. My oldest child also had a bad reaction to the MMR shot, exactly like the reactions I had to shots as a child (rash, fever, lethargy, flu-like symptoms that lasted about a month after being given the shot - and her doc said it was a normal reaction and nothing to worry about!!). She also suffers multiple allergies and chemical sensitivites, sensory integration disorder (I think that's what it's called) and has many signs of autism if she ever eats any gluten or sugar.
does your child have behavioral and social issues? If your child was autistic then she/he would have these signs unless they were in an early intervention program.
Oh, WOW. I didn't think they could affect you THAT bad. it makes sense to me, though. Have you ever tried to take some kind of action back at them? Maybe you could help stop the predominance of kids who are blindly led to the vaccination table. I don't know. Yeah right! more like the "usual" reaction. those symptoms are not the "normal" reaction to health. I know that's all gotta be pretty hard on you. Thanks for sharing.
I might just be in a really bad mood, but your question has really rubbed me the wrong way. DO YOU THINK I'M FREAKIN STUPID???!!!! It was the behavior issues that started me looking into all this in the first place. And I don't believe in "early intervention" or other attempts to cure autism. I believe that it is part of who she is, and who I am, and what we need are tools to help us function in society with our differences, rather than try to make us be like everyone else (a futile attempt regardless). I don't think the vaccines caused the entire problem. I think we already had the tendency before that to be this way, and the damage to our immune system pushed us over the edge. Being sensitive to foods and chemicals means our bodies are overstimulated all the time, any little thing can push us beyond the point of being able to cope with it, and we freak out, lash out, loose our cool, whatever.
Both my boys were vaccinated and they are healthy boys. I am all for vaccinating. In fact I have peace of mind about it. Maybe children wouldn't have so many behavioral issues if the parents disciplined their children and were consistant with their actions? It takes a lot of work, patience, and love however having to put up with the "issues" it's a lot more exhausting.
you can't "discipline" out autism or immune system disfunction (which, at least in our case, are one and the same). The behavior issues stem from a biological physical reaction in the body, no amount child psychology is going to make it go away. You can't beat it out of them, no matter how hard my father tried to, I'm still allergic to everything, and when I get overexposed to irritants, I react, sometimes violently. Actually, most forms of "discipline" make this kind of behavioral problem worse, not better. Be glad you don't know what it's like to have an autistic child, and how scary those fits are. They aren't your normal tantrums, not by a long shot, and it is frightening to watch it happen to your precious child. It's even more frightening when you come to the realization that it happens to you, as well.
From what I've read in this thread, there are bad reactions to MMR, Hep B, prevnar. But how about tetanus-diphtheria? I think this shot is given at birth. Do you think this shot is really necessary at least compared with other shots? and what about Polio? I agree.
HepB is the only one given at birth around here, and it's controversial, to say the least, unless mother is in a high risk group. There is controversy around the tetanus shot as well, seeing as how tetanus is everywhere, all around us, and if it were that big a risk, we'd all get sick every time we got the smallest scrape or scratch breaking our skin. The CDC website has the stats on incidence of certain illnesses, it's quite enlightening to read about how many people report having illnesses supposedly prevented by vaccines, and how many actually die from them. What's even more interesting is how many of those people were in fact vaccinated.
The behavorial issues I am talking about are the ones where the child throws a fit and the parents ignore the child or give in to what the child wants. The parents who want to be "friends" instead of fufilling their obligation to be the "parent". This doesn't help the child deal with every day challenges. As for a child with autism I have no idea what that is like. We discipline our boys, this does not mean we beat our boys. We talk with them and have a wonderful relationship with them.
Thank you mamaboogie! Only Hep B. I see. I've been reading another vax thread on this forum and like you said DPT (acronym used by Maggie Sugar, which I think stands for Dipht-tet) seems also controversial. Here is a repost of her statement: "She is a strong, smart child, but has a serious brain injury, and I am sure it was due to the reaction she had after her second MMR (she had seizures) and DPT (she had a disoder called Cerebellar Ataxia, and was hospitalzed while they ruled out a brain tumor and meningitis.) "
man right on! i've got to show my wife this thread because i have had a serious problem from the start with vaccinating our 17month old boy Denali. i had thought it was mandatory for schooling but had no idea about the religious exemption form. it has seemed over the months since his initial vaccinations he has been chronically ill with something. of course both of our parents have the connotation that that's just part of having a child. to a degree yes i agree but not to the extent we have been experiencing. it started shortly after his first vaccination with a double ear infection which increasingly got worse until we had to get tubes put in his ears nearly 5 months after even more drug cocktails. after a while the tubes seemed to help but he still pulls and digs at his ears on a rather constant basis. and it's not just teething either. you can tell by his reactions that there's something more bothering him. he's also developed a rather constant congestion problem. we are currently switching him from whole milk to soy milk, soy yogurt, etc. he's taking to the soy but slowly. anyway, very excited to have found this site and this thread! thank you all!
There are three exemptions-religious, medical and philosophical. I am lucky enough to live in a state that recognizes all three. http://909shot.com has a map that breaks down the exemptions by state. DH was talikng to a friend who is very into holistic medicine, and he brought up a good point. He said why do I have to wait to vaccinate my dog until its immune system develops, yet we vax babies against adult diseases at birth? What about their immue systems?
Calm down. I was not trying to be mean at all. I figured I could help you out because I work with autistic children and adults. Early intervention is essential if your child is throwing shit across the room, hurting people, running away in the community, and helps them develop language skills. I work with a 6'3" autistic boy. He used to run away from me in the community and go up to complete strangers and drink their drinks. I work with him one-on-one and this behavior issue is very minimal. There are some Autistic children that have to be in these programs in order to function without getting hurt. What if my client went up to someone who completely freaked out on him for drinking their drink? It has happened to me and I had to explain that he was autistic. A lot of autistic people are very intelligent, but are not given the chances. The right type of education helps them go as far or even farther than any typical child.
