Hi, as i'm going to Spain this summer I was thinking to spend a few days in Morocco too.I'll probably be going by myself, unless I meet anyone on the road. do you have any tips about Morocco? I 'd wander along the north coast..
No, I haven't been (yet), but the only tips I can really offer are: #1: See Marrakech! Artsy, cultural city with beautiful handicrafts! #2: Haggle. Storeowners tend to charge 2-3 times the regular price to tourist-looking people, so haggle them down as much as you can!
I lived in Tangiers and travel around there. It is wonderful. Hit the 'medinas", small shops and only drink bottled water. Be cautious (but not unfriendly) of the kids that WILL approach you, one kid was an excellent guide for hardly any cash, they are very smart bordering slick. You can get a comfortable Jalava (hooded covering) and it is possible to become invisable. Summer sun is bad so have long sleeved something. Do as you please about the hash. DO NOT try to bring any back, except in your bloodstream. Keep in mind, some countries dont like the US. The ferry from spain is great, go 1st class, or be sure you like what you are gonna get.
I agree, don't try and bring back the old Hashish. Make sure you see a Belly Dancer and snake charmer and it's really worth the while if your in Spain to catch the ferry over. Can't wait to do it again.
I hear Essaouria is really beautiful. Jimi Hendrix had a house there wasnt it? It has been a dream of mine for a long time to go to morocco, maybe smeday i will go, as i have friends over there, and have had plenty of invites. Just short on the cash at the moment, otherwise id have already gone. Peace and Love
I went to Morocco last year. I found it very interesting (first time I have been out of Europe). I would recommend not drinking the water (even to clean your teath with). Almost all of the people I went with ended up with dihorea (which I can't spell...) at some point in the holiday. My mum was the worst, she was ill for a week after we got back to England
I've heard rumours too that sometimes they pump the fruit, like water melons, with extra water so they weigh more and you can get an upset stomach this way as well.
If you went over to Morocco shouting about how Israel and America is great, and arabs are peices of shit... THEN you would probably have a problem. But if you went as respectable people, then why on earth would you have one? .. I mean its not exactly Iraq. Morocco is a poor country and relies on tourism for money, so do you think the moroccan government would allow for tourists to have problems. I have friends in morocco, who have told me an arab is not even allowed TALK to foreigners, without police coming over to make sure that everything is ok. The only thing to watch out for is being scammed. You are EXTREMELY unlikely to be hurt physically in morocco, but thats not true of being ripped off. They rip eachother off so why wouldnt they rip off a white person?lol. So if some1 is offering to bring you to their house, or bring you on a guided tour of the city... make sure you tell them you will pay NOTHING for it, and then if you want to you can give them a tip afterwards. Otherwise afterwards they will tell you they want $20 or something. I love morocco , but i still havent been Peace and Love
Marrakeshi is very tourisitc so ecpext to get some high prices and expensive life if going to stay there, otherwise other cities are good and have reasonable prices, such as Essaouira, or Rabat the capital, or Tetouan in the north & Chefchaouen (or Chaouen as some people may call it). Welcome to Morocco.
What about next summer? Or a bit earlier, next easter? *g* Which would be better? Because of the weather I mean

Chill with the hashish search. I mean, beware. We got tonnes of offers while we were there but the longer we stayed, the more warnings we got to NOT accept any offers. Some of the locals informed us that cops and rats offer tourists hash and then turn em' in once the deal is done. Enjoy the beauty.
