We've got posts on Dylan and posts on woody,,,What about Arlo you guys,,, Whats your favorite Arlo song???
Gabriel's Mother's Highway Ballad #16 Blues? I don't have a fave, tho Telephone is a good one today (hate Fridays at work). Darkest Hour is probably the longest term "fave" and Oh Mom is probably my son's Or Victor Jara. Or, When a Soldier Makes it Home..... If political folk gets you fired, check out David Rovics: www.davidrovics.com all songs available for download FREE.
Country Joe n The Fish,,,,,,,Whoopie were all gonna die,,,, and Alices Restaraunt,,,who doesnt love that song,,its damn funny
that would be Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag (he's from near Sallisaw) -Joe McDonald I'm as tired of Alice as Arlo is, although I was there the night he broke it our of retirement and added the Chip Carter rap. Rather see the film.
Never got to see him,,,too bad,,, I bet it was a good show,,, Yeah after like thirty years of singin it he really musta been sickened by it,,, but its still pretty funny,,,.... Hmmm Drummin mama youre a pretty smart chick ya know that!! : )
uhh... Arlo is alive and will be in Oklahoma in July. Free festival my son is named Arlo, so this is old territory
July 12-16 It is so incredibly worth it to go see these people who GET Woody and the traveling troubador tradition. http://www.woodyguthrie.com/main2.htm the last day of 2000's fest I made it out (new on the job and the first huge gas spike kept me from spending my nights in picks and days in work) and got to see Pete Seeger for the first time (a long time must see for me..I grew up on folk, but he righfully didn't care to be at southern fests in the summer) which was a blast but my icing was Ellis Paul, Don Conoscenti and Jimmy LaFave onstage together. they gave me chills. Love 'em all individually, but had NO idea they could blend so well.. Okemah is closer to Tulsa than the City in Creek Nation on I-40. You can't miss it: three water towers with at least one reading "Home of Woody Guthrie" in cowboy lettering. Of course half the town still hates him as a commie (he never was a paid party member: only supported the unionizing activity. Okla is a right to work -right to starve state today) THis is a fest that only sounds so interesting but magic takes place there. For free.
Yeah Woody's not very liked out here,,,by a lot of people,,,I found that surprising when i moved here,,,,You figure one of the greatest folk singers ever would be much more appreciated,,, its sad really,,,You are soooo lucky you got to see pete seeger,,,I dont make it out to too many concerts lately,,Saw Dylan when he swung through three times,,once with Willie Nelson and his family,,,, And anyone that says he s not good live is crazy,,,that was a hell of a show,,,,If Im not on the road when arlo comes,,Im gonna see him,,thanx for the info!!!!!!!!!!
Alices restaraunt wouldnt ve stayed around for soo long if it wasnt really good,, City of new orleans,,and the motorcylce song,,,too funny both good
Sorry, I saw Dylan several times and he's not much of a live performer, to me. But, I'm spoiled to the "tell you every story I ever learned and a few I made up driving here" kinds of singer-songwriters. Where in Okla are ya?
If you Like New Orleans, look up the author, Steve Goodman. He died in the 80s but left a hell of a legacy.
do you get over to Fayetteville for shows? some special rooms out there. Also , check out the Red Dirt Rangers
I saw Arlo is oncert a few weeks ago. He looks preety sick of Alice's. My favortie song is Country Joe and the Fish
the pause of mister claus is classic.(the live version on "arlo") going to see him play here in august woohoo
yea dylan is hit or miss live. he is bar none my favorite musician, just look at my user name, but i've seen him and been absolutely enchanted, and other nights just been like...ehh... as for my favorite arlo songs....ring around a rosy rag, highway in the wind, city of new orleans, the list goes on...
