Well, I only have experience with the product,
"Google Earth". It has its HELPFUL uses. But I don't
really TRUST the search engine that much.
Only if I'm desparate for info on something and
I feel like wading through the muck.

Google links your IP address to EVERY search you do. So when the feds tried to solicite their records Google had your searches in the files, and each one could be tracked back to you. I see this as a bit dangerous for the user.

Where is that info stored, on the users local machine or at a remote google database?

There's an interesting [thread=160530]thread going on in the protest forums right now[/thread]. Coincidentally I'm having a frustrating time trying to relocate with google some of my sources to add to a couple of threads here. I just switch search engines today.

Thanks for the link MikeE. I didn't realize Google had sunk so low, but I guess that's how far we're all brainwashed when it comes to marketing. One thing that makes me wonder, if they oblige to China's political whims and encourage ignorance on its populace, then who else does Google have to answer to?

I wouldn't put too much faith into that. Apparently Skip fails to understand exactly how Google's engine works. If he's listed anywhere in the search results, then they aren't censoring him. He just isn't happy with his ranking. There is a guy in the thread telling him exactly what he needs to do to improve his rankings, but he dismisses those comments and continues with his paranoid rant. It's very similar to the thread in this forum that he created about Google's plans to give away free wi-fi in San Francisco.

I like google. I can usually find what I want, even if I have to look at a few pages and it makes tools readily available to me that would otherwise be hard to get. I find it to be a good company

If using Google bothers you, then use Scroogle instead. When you put in a search term, they run the search on Google for you and return the results, essentially denying Google the ability to set a cookie with a serial number on your system and logging your IP address.

i like using google too but with this talk of logging of ip addresses, i'm wondering. of course on the other hand all this stuff could be coming about because google has upset a few people making money. i think google wants to have an internet library etc, setting up wi fi's etc. from a marketing perspective google should come clean, address the problem and everything will go back to normal.
