How do i know which religion is right? I have never really been exposed to any religions. My parents never talked about it and most of my friends just didn't care. I feel like something is missing in my life but is religion the way to go to help cure this emptiness?
There is no 'right' religion. They are just all beliefs. None of them have been proven true. Even those that are atheist just believe that there is no god, but then they don't know either because they believe it not know it. An emptiness in your life isn't nessisary because a lack of religion either. I suggest doing some soul searching. Think about who you are and what you want.
You'll eventually find one you like and agree with and that religion will be 'right' for you, or you will remain religionless. I went through the same thing in my late teens and early 20's. I was raised without religion. My parents will claim to be some denomination of Christianity but have never went to church in my life, don't read the Bible (not positive that one is even in their house), and don't consider religion in any of their decisions. I read up on all of the major religions and came to the conclusion that they were all unneeded in my life. However, I liked Judaism the most and Islam the least. Hinduism wasn't really coherent enough to make much of an opinion on. There were somethings I like about Budhism and other things I despised (the same for Christianity).
maybe your right. i'm going to be coming into some money within the next few weeks i should just take off and see where the wind takes me. Who knows i might find what i'm looking for.
Liaf. They dont. But millions certainly 'want' one. You are assuming that people like u and occam who can and do think about such things for ourselves. Who can come to independant conclusions based on our OWN thinking. Are the norm. Unfortunately this is not the case. To put it simply. Most people want a pre-packed belief system to answer all the feared doubts and questions they stumble across in life. They have no desire to think about it for themselves, but are quite capable of doing so. Occam
even as nothing HAS to exist, nothing has to NOT exist either. more to the point, nothing that does exist, has to resemble what anyone thinks they know about it. when everyone lived closer to the land the answer to your delema was easy. you go out in the woods, you go sit on top of a mountain, you listen to what speaks to your heart where there aren't other humans trying to tell you what to think. maybe you fast or preform other rituals if you think that might help, or not if you don't, the're all just props to help you be able to listen to something other then the constant babble of human mutual coersion. god or nature or the universe or whatever you want to call it, speaks to anyone who will shut up long enough to listen. christians and moslems think this is a myrical when it happens because they hardly ever do. the biggest obstical to anything is having preconceived notions about it. so just try for a while not doing so. vacumes have a tendency to be filled. if you feel that you have one, chances are pretty good it will be. unless you allow the preconceived speculations of others to prevent its being. if you want to study every kind of belief you can get your hands on that's okay too. just don't let any of them tell you not to study any of the others, or that anything other then itself has to be ill intended and harmful. if anything is, it is those that do. =^^= .../\...
Themnax, this is not a cheap shot but rather a curious question. Do you have a problem with spelling, or are you just into spontaneous prose like kerouac or something?
a bit perhapse of each: but even more, a bit of fine contempt for presumptions of, even defacto worship of, arbitraryness. clearity of expression is still the holy grail. not one however, that is always well served by gratuitously conventional expectations. =^^= .../\...
