howdy folks, Is there an online german auto translator that takes american sentences into german or vice versa without messing with the sentence construction? From the translations I have done so far using these auto translators it is real hard to make sense of some of the sentences. It is the words are all there, but they are in the wrong order, and I'm guessing that goes for anyone reading my translated to german stuff. much obliged Honor Seed
I don't think anything of that sort exists yet, just for the reason, that a computerprogramm can know the words and sometimes even grammar of a language, but it can not understand it's meaning and has no "feeling" for a language, like a human being does. So either you learn the language yourself, of find someone you speaks and writes it. For what purpose do you need it?
Thank you townes for the link. Kastenfrosch, I am going to publish a book on my paranormal experiences. The way a sentence is worded makes a lot of difference in the meaning. I want to publish it in all languages. I am a member of a german newsgroup. If I try a translator such as the one townes relayed, and the coherent german sentences from germans do not come back translated right, I can guess that my english sentences translated the other way are not going to be right either. If I have to sit down with a person to get the book right in that language, there is going to be a huge cost involved translating the book in even ten languages. Honor Seed
i don't know about american, but Google has a good translator, it seems fairly accurate, i use it when i'm stuck with sentences for german work.
no way..probably computer can never be able to make proper translation, simply because translation is not just words' substitution; languages are codes which express concepts, for example in the artic languages the Eskimos have about 15 words or more meaning snow..so a translator (human or computer) should shift his mind into the language "feeling" elaborating their concepts. so when you ask somebody how do you say this in your language, you mean what concept do you have for this? auf deutsch: wie wird das auf englisch begrifft?
Some years ago, when I still was at school, I ran a translating software on my English homework. When I read it loud, the class and our teacher ended up laughing madly It's always amazing when watching older SciFi movies or shows where they have computers able to speak, translate and understand human languages in a perfect way while there aren't any multimedia features. There are a lot of tasks human brains can handle much better than machines, and I hope that won't change too soon.
