    Hi,

I am not far from you at all. I live in east fishkill which probably makes us the only few people on this board that know where Poughkeepsie is.

Anyway, I really feel for you and your situation. When I was your age I was there and worse so I know what you are going through. You have all my sympathies and hopes that you find someplace safe.

Yes, there is a woman named Sara that is trying to get a commune going in Dutchess county. I will look up her contact info and PM you with her information and some other numbers you can use if you really need help and are in danger of abuse.

Feel free to PM me if you want.

hi, if you live near poughkeepsie, you should check out new paltz. i visited that area in january and met many good people and checked out many creative and community projects. the 1st place to go in new paltz is 60 Main. it is a cooperative coffee house and activist center and performance space. it is at 60 main st in new paltz. ask for tobias or katya or julia or andi. tell them nwrfred sent you. they don't live in a commune but they are all good people with plenty of friends who may be able to help you out in some way. new paltz is a very happening town and is close to you. so you should connect there even if you can't find a place to live. being 16 is a problem because legally you are still under the control of your parents. harboring you if you run away is considered a crime. kind of like harboring runaway slaves used to be. i know because i have harbored runaways before and we had the cops show up a few times. usually they will only chase you if your parents pressure them.
the sara that dalamar mentioned lived in wassaic at a place owned by a friend. sara has since moved to maine. the place is still there but i'm not sure what's happening there. it is an old farm house in pretty good shape on 180 acres. they also have some barns and are getting some farming going and possibly building an ecovillage. the person to contact about that is bill henry. 518 398 1337. he also has other places in that area and is connected with the new paltz network.
another place to check out is boughton place which is near new paltz. that is a small community project started by clare danielson. she is older, comes from the catholic worker movement, and has many connections thru the religious network. she could also probably help with some social services connections if you need them. one of the people who lives there teaches at a college in poughkeepsie. her number is 845 691 7578.
our new world rising networker in that area is andi. he is who showed me around to all these places and people. he has many other connections also. his number is 518 943 1929.
the main issue you face is the legal one. there are many communities developing around the country. most will probably not want to deal with the legal issues. but you are the canary in the coal mine. a representative of your new generation who wants to get out of babylon and live a more cooperative lifestyle. there were hundreds of thousands of runaways in the 60s. up to 50,000 went to san francisco in the 67 summer of love. i assume there will be plenty of more young people who will want to live a different lifestyle. the cooperative living network needs to get ready to deal with it. peace nwrfred

Unfortunately most places will be scared to take minors, for legal reasons.
