Does anybody else think it's a little bizarre that we make our children take up a fascination with toy babies at such a young age?

Even though it's obviously harmless, and doesn't turn them into baby factories later in life, it seems really strange seeing 5 year old girls pushing prams on the high street (assuming this isn't an exclusively British past-time!).

What do the mothers here think? What do you do? And why?

And for those that played with dolls when you were kids.. What was going through your minds at the time? Did any of you hate dolls? WHAT DID YOU DO TO THEM????

I'm really interested in this... odd choice of plaything..

i have always fucken hated dolls. they have always creeped me out. then look to much like dead...humans, i guess. only smaller.
i dunno but for some reason when i was really little my aunt used to fucken love to give me those creepy porclean dolls for like christmas & shit. i couldnt even fall asleep if those were in my room. but my mom wouldnt let me throw them away. so one day, i decapitated all of them. i dunno i was like eight. i tore off all their arms & legs. i got in trouble.

I don't think I 'make' trey play with anything. I buy him a wide variety of toys and he plays with what he wants. He has a little cabbage patch boy he got for christmas that he sometimes will hug but he generally tosses it aside for something that he can chew on easier

I humped them because I was fascinated. The way their titties stuck out drove me crazy.

Kids like to emulate their parents. I think that for the most part is where this comes from. I know a large portion of the young kids I know that play with dolls and baby dolls have baby sibilings.

I liked animal based toys like stuffed animals and science things. I was a really weird girl though. I never had like those dolls that you feed or any crap like that..just didn't sound fun to me.

Umm.. I don't think they're a bad thing. It makes children feel like a mommy. When I was younger, I always had dolls and barbies. It was like I was just like my mom... Changing the diapers and stuff.

But my friends and I did have the barbies have "sex" and stuff. We were about eight or nine.

i loved dolls---i would pretend i was the mother, like somebody said, parent imitation.
barbie dolls and the like yeah i did a lot of staging sex scenes. i think my daughter does that with hers too, she has tons of those bratz dolls...which are REALLY kinda creepy looking

I think we're overthinking toys... they're just toys.

I don't see any problem with dolls. An innocent toy that can simply a prop for role playing, and it's all part of the healthy, normal development of a child. They like to imitate, and bringing out a nurturing side to them is far from harmful.

They're very clearly not a bad thing.. It's just freaky seeing kids walking around with dolls in prams!

Whenever Action Man was on leave in our house, he always hooked up with Barbie for dirty weekends :D

there's no such thing as 'just' anything. but then there's no such thing as 'demonic' either.

miniature figures of all kinds have their place in miniature scenes to the same scale with them.

really it depends on the individual, and i don't mean on their gender either.

if they like to design and can make their own clothes for them dolls are cool.

the one question about any toy is which does it encourage more, creativity or aggressiveness?

when it's the former i'm fur it.
when it's the latter, i'm not.

speakin of which, posable furry/anthro dolls would be totaly cool
i've seen a limited number of action figures and miniatures that fit
that description, but ones with synthetic fur all over other then
just the plushies and beanie babies sort of things, would be totaly cool.

I've never seen that where I live. My daughter has a double stroller for her twin baby dolls (a boy and a girl), but she just plays with it in the house.

Hmmm, maybe subconsciously I'm conditioning her to give birth to twins like I did. I tend to get her twin baby dolls moreso than singletons, and it's always a boy and a girl doll, just like I had boy/girl twins. Seriously, I'd love twin grandbabies someday. And, if she inherited my fertility, I might very well have that happen! ;)

Wow, I'm surprised you never had a set. They say that the more pregnancies you have, the more likely you are to conceive twins!
