Led Zeppelin is (one of) the first heavy metal band(s) :)

The heavy metal evolved into music like Iron Maiden, but in the early days of the genre Led Zeppelin was counted as a heavy metal band! :)

I have never classed Zep as heavy metal... they are rock with blues edges :)

Yeah, same here, but back then it was pretty heavy! First they said Zeppelin was heavy metal, then the genre evolved and we now got bands like Iron Maiden, and now Zeppelin isnt heavy at all compared to Maiden and black metal etc.

It's pretty clear to me that it is proto heavy metal.

I loved the way two people too me seriously... You obviously don't know enough about Zeppelin to know that in a live situation, Robert often quipped about them being a folk band... Especially during the acoustic sets. [IMG]

I was being facetious with reference to this...

I don't know enough of them to could've understood that!
But I obviously was suprised about someone using the term "heavy folk". Hence, I responded with a question sign. To ask for an explanation ;) It's not like I took you that seriously.

I don't see what's so surprising... I can totally see how some of their facets could be perceived to be heavy folk music... Apart from all the obvious examples like Bron-Yr-Aur, White Summer, Gallows Pole, Friends... You have bombastic folk like BIGLY and OTHAFA... Light and shade.
