yea the argument that since google is a "private corporation" they have the "inherent right" to do anything is bullshit. corporations only have rights because we let them. corporations are legal fictions that exist only because we allow them to. until this perception of corporations shifts, we are going to have to continue to go to them on our knees begging them to do what we want. its bullshit. fuck google and fuck its cencorship.

 

I emailed them a while ago, and have yet to receive any kind of response...even the usual automated BS.
This sort of thing...well, I suppose it's a sign of the times we're in. A scary sign.

 

I think most people would click on the first few on page 1..go try it.

Dreaming up the supposed comparative 'censoring' of google.co.uk/com and google.cn is tenuose Skip ... even for you.

I can appreciate his point to a degree, but he is making a mountain out of a mole hill... getting all hyperbolic over 'censoring' etc etc etc .. Sometimes i wonder if he is being completly serious.. but then i get a reply and find that he is.

I would wonder about this.. but i would be peeved if i had a alternative website that was on page 6 ... People do seem to lose interest after the first few pages.. so i can see how a business would be effected.. that point i understand..

Everything else is a bit OTT..

Their are literaly thousands of other sites fighting to be FIRST.. being on the top of the majority seems quite a nice place to be.

If everybody got a bit peeved because they were not at the top.. what would that lead to.. ?.. anarchy i tell you.

I agree with the sentiment that Skip would make a good lawyer.. they rely on tenuous links to a degree.

 

I wouldn't call this making a mountian out of a mole hill. This community has got to take a lot of effort to maintain (let alone create), and if you put as much effort into something and are as successful as Skip has been then you are going to be more than a little peeved when you see you're site has suddenly been taken out of search results. This on top of seeing recently that google is willing to censor it's content is going to irritate any hippy. Don't forget where you are, people - this is the Hipforums.

This isn't about everyone fighting to be first, we know hippy.com should rank high in the "hippy" search results because it always used to and nothing regarding the site has changed that would affect that ranking. Suddenly now we've got people's myspace accounts ranking (way) higher on the search results for "hippy". There is an obvious problem here, not an imagined one.

 

I want to reply to this thread but almost afraid to.... ah well...

I wonder why people who respond to this thread or others throughout the site feel like Skip or the moderators are being condescending? We're expressing our opinion, sorry if it isn't EXACTLY yours.

I read through this whole thread, and maybe it's just me, but I don't think that anyone wants to argue; one person's B.S. isn't much different then yours, Skip, with all due respect.

We do acknowledge it. Most - if not all - of us read your thread in its entirety. It absolutely sucks that google is doing what they're doing, if in fact if it's censoring certain sites because of political views or what not.

As far as I can tell, you're still in the works of dealing with Google, you don't know FOR SURE that this is what they're doing. Right now all you're doing is accusing Google of what you think is going on... I may have missed it, but I don't think anything's been proven just yet.

I've been noticing how a lot of the moderators have been censoring material within hipforums (yea, yea, I know, we're not really talking about hipforums in this thread, blah blah blah, I'm so ignorant) that really don't NEED to be censored, but then this is supposed to be some kind of a groovy hippy make-love-not-war free speech zone... PLUS on top of all that, we're also being called idiots for having our own opinion... it's a bit degrading, but I like the abuse.

And yes, I've been boycotting google since I first read this thread.
