i wonder if my one cat has a problem- its not about the fact that she is fat but i have to bring that up because it might be relevant i dont know... she's fat and lazy and sleeps all the time but super sweet anyways for a long time now.... and no i dont look at her butt on purpose but you can see cat's butt's..... im not trying to be sick but she always has dried poop there..... i cleaned it off once and the next day it was the same.... i tried again and she does NOT like that so i stopped trying..... it seems to be a chronic problem and im just wondering is that normal or could it be the sign of a serious problem? i love my cats and i just dont know what it means.
i know i should probably ask a vet about it. and i will in a couple of months when we have the money to take them. still wondering if anyone has any serious insight
ive had cats and dogs all my life, and ive experienced similar things. the poop hangin off the butthair is due to a couple of things. firstof all, it prolly a longhair cat. it needs trimming from time to time anyways. second, runny poop is prolly due to poor diet. or maybe age of cat too, if hes old, his poop is gonna be runnier. and the fat and lazy thing, let me tell you. my favorite cat of all time was named "smokey" and he weighed every bit of 25 pounds and was the most cool kitty to hang around, but cats can be like people too. have you ever met someone who was morbidly obese? have you ever met someone who was morbildly obese over the age of 30? its basically the same with cats. every one is different, but try feeding him some veggies or fiber of some type.
how fat is your cat? an obese cat is not a good thing and that could be why he is so lazy. i not assuming that you are overfeeding him but perhaps he has a problem with his thyroid or something else? anyway, my dog lily likes to eat things off the floor and she consumes lots of hair that way and because of that sometimes her poo will not fully come out because it is attached to the hair that wont fully come out (i know that's gross) . but then she wipes her butt on the floor trying to get it off and the poo smears a bit and she ends up with dried poo. since your cat is long haired maybe she is getting to many hairballs and hair in her tummy.........just a theory.
My cat used to have that problem, and she wasn't a very long-haired cat. I gave her hairball remedy (helps to lubricate the intestinal tract), and she still had the problem occasionally. Personally, I wouldn't spend a lot of money at the vet-if you give her hairball remedy (should be given on an empty stomach) and a good diet, and she still has the problem, that's probably all you can do.
This happens to my dog occassionally but doesn't last longer then a couple days. She has a lot of digestive problems and is on medication but everytime I notice it just happens to be when I notice she's not feeling well. If it doesn't go away on it's own take your kitty in to see a vet. Whatever it is probably a little antibiotics will clear it up. Good luck to you and your furball!
Yep ... my cat is about 10 yrs old and kind of overweight ... (he used to be really overweight because I let my parents keep him for awhile and they overfed him).. anyways .... I finally have gotten his weight down a bit, and I have noticed it has helped his bowel problems.. so thats good. I also try to keep him on foods good for this problem (Purina Indoor Formula is one, or any of the ones that specify good for hairball and digestive problems) and yeah like DQ Veg says ... you can give the cat Hairball Remedy or something like that, or grow some greens in a pot so the cat can have ready access to it .... all those things should help. But ya know ... my cat still occasionally has problems ... sometimes his poop is dry and it gets stuck and when he jumps outta the box it falls on the carpet .... and sometimes he pukes on my bed .............. but it's a labor of love really, the companionship I get from my cat is worth any of the shit (no pun intended, lol) that I have to deal with from him!
A food i would suggest is Royal Canin brand or Authority brand which is a bit cheaper per bag (they have a hairball control formula) but the main ingrediants are meat and meat based, not corn like the mainstream store bought brands. cats are carnivores so buying them food with so much corn is not good for them or their system. those two brands are at petsmart and petco.
yeah she is over weight.... its weird because i feed my cats weight control food and my other cat is lean. ive tried to get her to lose weight but its really difficult.
well today we bought the cats treats that say they are for indoor cats and "contains the wholesome grains and garden greens that indoor cats crave and natural fiber helps to promote healthy digestion" so maybe they will help. i just worry a lot and wouldnt want it to be something like worms or something and me think its no big deal.
it is ... its very difficult to get indoor cats to lose weight ..... its actually taken me a few years to get Bagheera down to a size I feel is better for him ... ideally he should be thinner but he is so cuddly big, and he is muscular and carries his weight good .. I just dont want his belly sagging the way it used to. But I cant bear to deprive him of food alot.... he loves food SO much ... lol. I really have to be firm with him sometimes... and he gets so anxious when he wants to eat .... but its better for him and his health and I have to remind myself that .... although I STILL cant get my parents to stop tossing food inthe dish in the kitchen (the chihuahuas dish) for him ... I have gotten into arguments with them before about it ... lol ... but they are so stupid they think they HAVE to feed him if he is at the dish *sighs* ... so yeah its a constant battle. Yeah maybe those treats will help ... if you give them to yout kitty regulary try to cut back a little on the food though for less calories... good luck ..
yeah hopefully they will help. well the other reason its hard to get her to lose weight is because my other cat... my other cat isnt like too skinny but she's very lean and i leave food out for them because i dont think its fair to deprive both of them of food and i can just imagine how different it would be to feed them at different times. as a matter of fact, also, i dont think my fat cat (and yes, she has quite a belly)- really eats any more then the lean cat.... the lean cat likes to run around more and sleep less... i think a lot of it is really their metabolism and body composition but yeah, i know i really should figure out a way to get prancer (the fat one) to lose weight.... she weighs almost twice as much as my other cat!
does she go outdoors? if not, at petsmart they have "cat grass" which is basically just like a little plant pot with some natural grass growing in it and cats love it. i'm sure you've seen it before. that might help with her digestion a little.
yeah she's an indoor cat... i have seen that stuff before and even bought it once a couple of years ago.... maybe ill get it again- thanks
