I would like to go camping soon, and was wondering if anyone knows of any natural bug repellants, especially for spiders (they scare me, it's silly I know). I don't want to use any chemicals that would harm the air or ground. If anyone knows of any natural stuff, let me know!!!
Badger's Bug Balm all natural and is quite effective. You may have to reapply several times but it beats the h*ll outta DEET based crap. BTW: DEET has the nasty effect of melting nylon and has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals.
EATING GARLIC!!!!! ITS NOT A VAMPIRE MYTH, IT STEMS FROM TRUTH. EATING LOTS OF GARLIC(which is also good for so many other reasons) mosquitos especially dont like it
no spider repellant for me ..i like spiders ..anything that eats flies and mosquitoes is a friend of mine ...especially love bats
Avon Skin So Soft will keep the no-see-ums away... really anything that is oil based. As for spiders, I'm not sure. I don't know anything that will keep the deer flies away.
I made a thread about this a month or so back. Here is the link, there was some heaps helpful stufff people told me (yes I did write stuff with 3 f's)...-> http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147488 If you don't eat banana's, mosquito's are more likely to leave you alone. Citronella candles! Yay!!!!!!! Cover up. Wear long socks to keep the nasty leeches away and other little nasties.
Native Americans of the south west U.S. say that rubbing sage leaves on yourself will repel insects and ticks. I don't know if really works or not but wild sage is really pundgent smelling and not many insects or animals will eat sage plants.
GREEN BAN!!!! its 100 percent natural, made with tea tree and other essential oils, 100 percent deet free and it works. it also soothes itches. im sure they have a website, maybe just google search "green ban bug repellent"
Im gonna have to second eating lots of garilic, start a few days befor As for bugs if you can take some ceder brances or grrens and put them in your tent/ bag it smells so good and the bugs hate it
http://www.drugstore.com/qxp45539_333181_sespider/burts_bees/herbal_insect_repellent.htm Burt's Bees natural insect repellent.. Active Ingredients: Lemongrass Oil 3.20%, Citronella Oil .40%, Rosemary Oil .40% Inactive Ingredients: Grapeseed Oil, Vitamin E
Citronela(sp?) works, you can even buy the plants at a nursery, there are a bunch of other plants but Ill have to ask an expert and back to ya. Being super drunk repels mosqitoes, on a camping trip they were bad(I live in Florida and I mean bad) and one of my buddies drank too much and passed out on the ground and didn't get a single bite, a sober person would have been covered by them in seconds. Burning cocount husks repels them too.
The best naturals to keep bugs away as far as I'm concerned are pure peppermint oil or clove oil, or a combination thereof. No joke, this is a known fact (check out some of the gardening and natural living sites out there), and it smells fantastic to most people!
Poke-root,boiled in water and mixed with a quantity of molasses, set about the kitchen,in large deep plates, will kill cockroaches.
