Holding Camp Directions:

Gathering Holding Camp ..1 near Wigwam in Pike National Forest. Take 285 south from Denver to Pine Junction. Last gas, groceries, and supplies in Conifer. Take a left at Junction onto County Road 126. Follow County Road 126 to Forest Service Road 211. Take FS 211 to Wigwam Trail. Drive up Wigwam Trail till you see the rock piles and/or rainbow banners. More details soon.

Ok here it is. The area we were going to have the holding camp (the forest service has decided was no good and closed) so here it is az list and you can choose.

Mushroom Gulch (Herring Park on the map):

Brief directions are go 285 from the Denver
area towards Buena Vista. Turn left onto FS 307 (right by Castle Rock).
Follow that to FS 187 towards Balsam Park. Go 11.7 miles to FS 174. Go
south on 174 1.0 miles to a gate. open/close gate (so the cows don't get
out) and drive another 3/4 mile to treeline. Pictures of that site are

Phantom Creek:
Take hyw 24 out of CO Springs to Divide. Then go on rt 67 (Ridge Rd),
the left on Teller St. (rt 51). Stay on rt 51 until the name changes tp
FR35. Continue to site.

Villa Grove site: (2001 regional)
Colorado Regional gathering. From just north of Villa Grove
(south of Salida on rt 285) go right on CR LL56 (Bonanza Rd).
After 7 miles to HH50 and go left. At this junction there
should be a sign for Columbia Gulch and Ute Pass. Go 2 miles to
Colmbia Gulch, and go right on FS 857. 1.5 miles to parking.

Midway Spring:

From 285 going south towards Salida:
Just south of Hecla Junction, turn left on rt 291 to Salida. Just
before you get into Salida, turn left on FS 175. (by the bridge)

From 50 going west towards Poncha Springs:
Go through Salida on rt 291, and continue out of the north side of
town. Just outside of town, turn right on FS 175.

From FS 175 & CR 291:
Follow FS 175 east about 6 miles to the first heavily traveled dirt
road on your right. (I recall power lines over head) Turn right on FS
181, which last time I ws there, the sign was missing, but we built a
cairn of rocks. Follow 181 alittle bit till it crosses the creek. Park
anywhere in the next mile or so, but Midway Spring is right there were
181 crosses the creek. Folks will need to clear alittle brush to get to
the spring proper, it's in the fenced off area.

You've gone too far:
You've missed the turn onto FS 181 if you see signs for FS 183,
185, or 182. If you get to anyone of these, turn around, and it's your
next left, about 1/2 mile back towards Salida.

there is a holding camp in operation at Manitou Springs area SW of Denver for those wanting to show up early and help build Seed Camp and attend Spring Council

Let me repost for DAMAGE CONTROL~ listen if you live outside of the state and aren't clear on the actual weather conditions don't listen to the hold camp rumors!

A little more rumor control.

this is a partial list of previous holding camps and/or regional
gathering sites. I know as fact that some of these are currently
under snow!!!! Further a couple of them are not currently slated to
have the USFS road closure show fences opened till JUNE. It might be
wise for folks to actually "scout" and check them out before sending
folks headlong on a snipe hunt.


P.S. I know many are eager and anticipating. Please be aware that
Colorado still has lots of snow and cold weather ahead. If you come
early come VERY prepared. Please be respectful to locals and local areas.

I have seen it posted on AGR and the Colo. rainbow yahoo group that the holding camps AREN'T active, except for the Permanent Roaddog Holding Camp* outside Boulder. So, ya better know WTF you are talking about before you send someone off into freezing cold weather...

So no I disagree I sent not one soul on a snipe hunt, but this was a door way for someone to do their own research, maybe they can find this papabear guy on MYSPACE and ask him further questions??? WHO KNOWS what the will of the next person will do with this information but its their life and they have the freedom to do what they want with it....

No shit... wow people if you come early its cold and snowy, dress for the weather make sure your rig has tire chains ect ect.... in no way is this grounds for not spreading the information ...... its cold, no kidding, colorado really????? glad we have a Rainbow version of big brother to hold our hand so we dont kill or hurt ourselves.....

Since your now trying to make me out to be a bad guy in public I have to respond, I have sent this person 1 pm letting her know I was not the soul writter of the above, she then replyed back I then lol'd her response as I thought it was crap. Dude...calm down. You did name call. THAT was out of line. If you post it, you are responsible for your post. Some ppl see it that way. You certainly DIDN'T post a disclaimer in your post stating- these sites have NOT been checked out to be viable at this time. That would have been more responsible. We have to take care of each other like it matters. Where else but in the Rainbow Family is there always a Welcome Home? I'm asking to to consider to be more careful about how you post. That was all. I do apologize for becoming impatient with you.

Perhaps you should refrain from calling ppl negative names. Try to come from a place of compassion, and try to see the bigger picture.

Information is for anyone who wants to see it, how they use it is their freedom to do so. Theres not a check point at every dark cloud in the sky to alert me I better have my coat ready becase it might start raining. People at some point have to be responsible for their own actions, and that includes traveling to cold places... To bluntly say I am wrong for posting directions to a holding camp becasue its cold is a joke to me, basicly you have said these people are to stupid to bring a coat or warm gear to suvive and to me thats just wrong. We, not you get to make those choices if we want to travel where ever we want... But thanks for trying to hold our hand while we walked across the street, it was a nice but un-nessasary gesture, I can read the stop and walk sign......
